NFL: Cowboys' New Head Coach Leads Them To Victory Over the Giants

Last week, interim head coach Jason Garrett was told that if he wanted to stay as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, they would have to start making some wins.
Luckily, Garrett seems to be coaching well enough to keep his job, with a stunning victory over the Super Bowl favorite New York Giants, who are currently ranked as the best team in the NFL.
The Cowboys played just like old times on Sunday, winning 33-20, with the Cowboys QB Jon Kitna throwing three TD passes. He threw for a season high 327 yards, clinching their second win of the season, with seven losses trailing behind them.
"I thought the intensity was there in all three areas," Garrett said "Guys were fighting for each other. We were challenged in all areas and I think we stepped up."
The $1.6 billion New Meadowlands Stadium hosted a wild game, with two power outages, and great plays by both teams.
Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones acknowledged Garrett’s hard work, giving him the game ball, which marked the end of a five-game winning streak for the Giants, and a five-game losing streak for the Cowboys.
"I think the difference, first and foremost, is the freakish disasters that have kind of defined our season didn't happen tonight for us," Kitna said after starting his third straight game since replacing the injured Tony Romo, "There was no tipped balls
for interceptions and things like that."
Bryan McCann, a rookie cornerback for the Cowboys, made an amazing, not to mention, team record, 101-yard interception return in the second quarter.
The Giants failed to put pressure on the Kitna, allowing him to make a 71, 45, 44, and 32 yard pass, as well as a couple others.
"I'll tell you what, they played well," Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora said. "They hit us with a lot of big plays. And we can't afford to let an offense do that against us. All the credit goes to them."
The first point of the game was by the Giants, with 5:04 left in the first quarter. Lawrence Tynes kicked a 43-yard FG, putting the Giants ahead for the only time in the game.
Less than two minutes later, Kitna threw to Dez Bryant for 13 yards, scoring a TD, with David Buehler’s PAT blocked by the Giants defense. The Cowboys were still put ahead, 6-3, at the end of the first.
30 seconds into the second, Buehler kicked a 22 yard FG, extending the Cowboys lead, 9-3.
McCann then made his record breaking 101-yard interception return, from one end zone to the other, followed by a PAT by Buehler, putting Dallas ahead even more, 16-3.
Buehler followed with another field goal four and a half minutes later, this time for 23 yards, making the score 19-3.
With the Cowboys ahead by 16, Giants kicker Tynes kicked a 25 yard FG to put them closer to the Cowboys, 19-6.
The Cowboys retaliated with a 71 yard pass from Kitna to Felix Jones for a TD followed by Buehler’s PAT, putting Dallas ahead by 20, 26-6.
Eli Manning then threw a 5 yard pass to Mario Manningham, followed by a PAT by Tynes, with the score now at 26-13.
Kitna threw another TD pass, this time to Miles Austin for 24 yards, followed by a successful FG by Buehler, putting them ahead by 20 again, 33-13.
The Giants seemed to start a comeback with 5:19 left in the fourth, with a 35 yard pass from Manning to Kevin Boss, with a PAT by Tynes, making them down by 13, 33-20.
However, it wasn’t good enough to win.
The Cowboys emerged victorious, with a final count of 33-20.
Dallas’ next game will be on Sunday November 21, against the Detroit Lions at Cowboys Stadium.
New York’s next game will be against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 21.
Stay tuned!
