NFL BREAKING NEWS – Eli Manning not to play on Saturday
Eli Manning, New York Giants starting quarterback will not make an appearance on Saturday in a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manning got seriously injured in a preseason game between the Giants and the New York Jets, which took place on 16th August in New Meadowlands Stadium, New Jersey.
The Pro bowler was left bloodied on Monday after a miscommunication with Brandon Jacob, and got 12 stitches on the left side of his forehead. New York Giants head coach Coughlin told the reporters he is not sure when Manning will be playing again, because the team is concerned that the helmet might cause the stitches to break and bother the wound.
However, Eli insisted he was doing alright and earlier the Giants website quoted him saying, "I physically feel fine. I threw some balls today, running around, I know what's going on and I'm all there so it's just a matter of getting the helmet on."
Manning was gravely injured during the second quarter after smashing against the running back Brandon Jacobs followed by a solid hit from Calvin Pace, Jets linebacker. Manning’s helmet came off after the brutal hit by Pace, despite the fact he tried to grab the ball, while Jim Leonhard came running in hitting him and creating a three-inch gash.
Eli was rushed to the medical staff, and examined by the team’s surgeon Russell Warren. Manning told the press he was not certain when the stitches will be removed but he thinks he was fortunate enough not to face a serious injury. He exclaimed he could have easily broken his bone or nose after his Helmet came off and was lucky he did not face any such issue.
"When it is preseason, you have time to get things healed up. It's time to be smart," Manning said.
Jim Sorgi was to play as a backup quarterback for the Giants but was gravely injured recently. He suffered from shoulder and rib injuries and did not attend practice in the following days. Sorgi was chomped after a thirty-four yard touchdown pass to the undrafted sensation Victor Cruz.
“I'm a little sore; I took a couple of good shots. We'll see how it goes, ice down and get some treatment and be ready to go. Manning got 12 stitches. I didn't get stitches. I'll say I caught the good end of that” said Sorgi during the warm-ups on Wednesday.
