Say I was going to kick a field goal and I'm on the other team's 31 yd line, where would I kick the field goal from? How many yards do you go back to kick it? 15?

  1. In the NFL, it's 18 yards back. So a field goal from the 31 in the NFL would be a 49 yard kick.

I don't know about high school in college. But in the NFL, the endzone is 10 yards deep and the holder usually places the ball 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

  2. Dallas has his numbers correct but might be a little confusing. With the 10 yards for the end zone and the 8 yards BACK you would have a total of an extra 18 yards for a total of a 49 yard field goal. You would actually be kicking the ball from the 39 yard line.
