NFL Highlight: Vick Back To Old Self In Eagles Win Over Texans
Michael Vick had to endure some hard hits, but got up every time and just kept going.
Quarterback Vick totaled 302 passing yards and two passing touchdowns and 48 rushing yards for one TD. Strangely enough, Vick was both passing and rushing leader in the Philadelphia Eagles' game
against the Houston Texans, which the Eagles won, 34-24.
The Texans seemed to be using the same technique that the New York Giants and Chicago Bears used against Vick, which is making Vick leave the pocket to the right. As a result, he was battered,
harassed, and hurried throughout the entire game.
"He got knocked around a little bit," coach Andy Reid said. "He got back up and kept going. I loved his energy in the second half. Both sides of the ball, he was firing them up."
However, Vick never stayed down and scored two passing TD's and one rushing TD to boot. This was the first time that Vick led the Eagles to make a fourth quarter comeback win. They were ahead in
the first half by 11 but fell behind 24-20 in the 3rd quarter.
"We did a great job battling back," Vick said.
The Texans played quite well. QB Matt Schaub had 337 passing yards and two passing TD's. Mere days after he had a fight with Tennessee Titans' Cortland Finnegan, Andre Johnson racked up 149 receiving
yards.
But they just weren’t good enough.
The Eagles are now the top team in the NFC East. Last week's loss against the Bears was the first game that the Eagles lost with Vick starting and finishing. Vick wanted to show that his magic
wasn’t gone, it was just...absent for their last game.
The three-time Pro Bowler completed 22 passes out of 33 attempts for two TD's as well as 48 rushing yards and one TD. This was his third 300-yard game.
"This young man is playing as good as anybody I've seen play in the NFL and I've been doing it for a while," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said of Vick. "He's special and we just tried to contain him,
but obviously he still had a big night. He's been doing it against a lot of people so. ... We had a couple of chances for turnovers. He gave us a couple of opportunities that we just didn't take advantage of."
The game started with Vick making a one yard TD pass to LeSean McCoy, followed by a successful point after attempt (PAT) by David Akers to put the Eagles ahead, 7-0.
The Texans tried to retaliate, but all that they managed was a 48 yard field goal with 4:55 left in the first quarter. At the end of the first, the score was 7-3.
The Eagles made their next TD 30 seconds into the second quarter, with McCoy running four yards for another TD. Five minutes later, Akers kicked a FG for 36 yards.
Houston then scored it's first TD of the game with a eight yard TD pass from Schaub to Jacoby Jones. The Eagles then finished the first half with Akers kicking a FG for 22 yards. At the end of
the first half, the score was 20-10, still to the Eagles.
In the third quarter, the Texans made a comeback. With 8:49 left in the third, Schaub made a 13 yard TD pass to Arian Foster, followed by a successful PAT by Neil Rackers. Foster then scored again
eight minutes later with a three yard run to put the Texans ahead for the first time in the game, 20-24.
The Eagles showed why they are the number one team in the NFC East in the 4th, with Vick running for a two yard TD and then Vick passing to Owen Schmitt for a 5 yard TD pass. At the
end of the game, the score was 34-24, with the Eagles claiming victory.
Philly is now half a win ahead of the Giants for the NFC East lead, but the Giants might come out on top after their matchup against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
"They are a good team and this is a tough place to play," Schaub said. "We had a good plan, we kept fighting back. It just wasn't enough in crunch time to do it."
The Eagles' next game will be on Sunday December 12 against the last place NFC East Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium.
The Texans will play against the 1st in the NFC North Baltimore Ravens on Monday December 13 at home.
