NFL: Michael Vick planning on going to jail again?
Michael Vick is one of the best quarterbacks in history of National Football League (NFL), but also a player with too many scandals and issues which never seem to subside.
So it has it, Michael Vick is in the news again but this time apparently the Philadelphia Eagles star player did not cause any commotion, he is keen on being a productive member of the society by encouraging an anti –dog fighting crusade. Although the news is vague, but apparently someone was shot at his birthday bash and that someone was allegedly his co defendant Quanis Phillips in the dogfight case.
However it is still not clear whether Quanis was there or not because that would violate the terms of their probation, in which they are not allowed to interact or be in the same room. However serious questions are being raised as how come they ran into each other at the party? Was it pure coincidence? Either way it happened and the probation terms were violated, this is definitely a situation what an ex-convict who has been given a second chance should stay clear from.
Yet this is nothing new for Vick he is used to being in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Looking into his past there have been various occasions for the NFL star. Michael Vick, in previous years has been accused of many violations and has been found guilty on many accounts.
In Mid 2007 the football player ended up in jail after being found guilty on holding dog-fights at his house after The Bad Newz Kennels dog fighting run by Vick at his private 15-acre property in Virginia was investigated. The feds found over 80 dogs, some bruised and battered and were taken into custody for proof.
By August Michael and three other men were pleaded guilty by the court on animal abuse charges and drug related matter. From wide range of sources it was determined that the cruelty took to an extent that the injured dogs were drowned, electrocuted and shot after the fights. The name given to the brutal dog fighting was “Bad Newz Kennel”.
After the conviction Vick lost all his major endorsement and contracts which included, EA Sports, Hasbro, Air Tran, Kraft, Rawlings, Nike and Coca-Cola. Furthermore he was suspended by his team Atlanta Falcons without a pay check.
Vick apologized to his fans after the conviction stating:
"First, I want to apologize, you know, for all the things that -- that I've done and that I have allowed to happen. I want to personally apologize to commissioner Goodell, Arthur Blank, coach Bobby Petrino, my Atlanta Falcons teammates, you know, for our -- for our previous discussions that we had. And I was not honest and forthright in our discussions, and, you know, I was ashamed and totally disappointed in myself to say the least” ….."I'm upset with myself, and, you know, through this situation I found Jesus and asked him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God. And I think that's the right thing to do as of right now.
Michael Vicks seemed to be on a roll for small charges, 3 years prior to the Dog-fighting incident.
In 2004 Vick and his team members were at an airport in Atlanta, his friend Billy Johnson who is the known to be the fixers for the Falcons picked up a watch that belonged to Alvin Spencer, a security screener. When called for inquiry, Johnson was made unavailable by Vicks representatives and the watch was later returned to Spencer after a week.
The same year, two people were arrested for distributing marijuana and it was later found out the truck they were driving was registered under Michael Vicks name.
In 2005 Vick was sued by a woman named Sonya Elliot, regarding the fact that Vick gave her herpes. The woman said that Vick knew of his condition yet failed to notify her. Sonya Elliott said Vick went under a pseudo name “Ron Mexico” to a clinic to get treatments, therefore he knew about the fact he had STD’s.
In the following year, Vick was fined $10,000 by the NFL and donated another 10 grand to charity, because he showed the middle finger to his fans who booed him after he lost a game to New Orleans Saints.
Let us just hope that the star does not put himself in jeopardy again, because surely he can’t afford to after such a disreputable past and not to forget he just came out of jail. Vick has people watching every move he makes and people who are looking over his shoulders all the time. One big mistake and the quarter-back will be thrown back into the dungeon.
