NFL : Michael Vick trouble again, Investigation into shooting underway
Trouble began for the Philadelphia Eagles troubled star quarterback, on 25th June. Allegedly Michael was involved in the shootout after his birthday, rumours had it that Michaels co-defendant Quanis Phillips was shot and Michael had something to do with it after their quarrel. Although Michael has bluntly denied such allegations, and, he says he left his own party before the incident even took place.
However, a recent surveillance video put Michael Vick in jeopardy as it shows Michael left a few minutes prior to the shooting, with his entourage exiting the party towards his vehicle.
This incident has left Vick in peril due to his previous charges regarding him holding a dog-fight arena at his house, for which he was sentenced to two years in jail and recently was released for good behaviour. One of his parole conditions is that he is not to interact in any sort of way with people who were convicted relating to the dog-fight case unless his parole officer permits him too.
Michael’s image has been distorted by his heinous acts over the years, yet people around have been forgiving.
One of the unknown teams said that the Philadelphia Eagles are strongly reconsidering Michael Vick, although the Eagles released a statement this Saturday saying "any report or speculation that suggests the Eagles are considering releasing Vick is not true. We will continue to gather information and monitor the situation and we will not have any further comment until that process is complete".
The team member says the Eagles are thinking of cutting him loose despite what the police might conclude regarding the shootout at his 30th birthday last week. The spokesmen told the Associated Press he would like to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the issue.
On the other hand, Vick keeps releasing statements, he had nothing to do with the shooting and left before the incident even took place. He further says that he told the Eagles of what exactly happened at this birthday. Roger Goodell, who is the National Football Leagues (NFL) Commissioner, said that Vick has a extremely limited margin for error, after he pardoned him last year.
Michael, who was a three-time Pro Bowl pick, was to start his season this year with the Eagles for about $5.2M. He currently is the most experienced quarterback on the Eagles roster and letting him go would definitely affect the team.
Vicks fans, well ex- fans now, and animal rights activists condemned the Philadelphia Eagles last year for re-signing Vick after he finished serving his 18 month role in federal prison for dog-fighting. Jeffrey Lurie who owns the Philadelphia Eagles said Michael’s actions were “despicable” and “horrific” and he apparently did a lot of soul searching before re-considering him last year.
Vick who has won the Ed Block Courage Award in debut years with the Eagles was considered a role model all over America, on field and off field. His team-mates cherished him and were the ones who voted him for the Courage Award.
Sadly, his scandals in recent years that have come to surface over a small period have almost cost him his job which he has been training for since he was a kid. Even if everything turns out to be a lie, and, he is excused for his misconduct, his perception that has been formed on the public will remain.
For the moment, Michael is not a suspect because there is no substantial evidence of him being involved or violating any probationary writs he has to follow. But if evidence is found against him, even remotely being involved in the shootout or in violation of his probation regulation, NFL and his parole in charge would take strict action against him.
