NFL News, Steelers in denial over Big Ben’s foot injury
Last week in the Pittsburgh Steelers versus Buffalo Bills game, Ben Roethlisberger came out with what was then classified as a strained foot. He missed only a few snaps during the game and is probable for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
But the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Big Ben’s sprained foot is actually broken.
The Gazette reported that the outside metatarsal or fifth metatarsal bone on his right foot was broken in the first quarter of their win over the Bills.
The Steelers have denied the allegations, first listing the star quarterback’s foot as sprained and said on Thursday that the injury is "an aggravation of an old injury where scar tissue is present".
Roethlisberger was having difficulty in practice and was quite limited in his mobility. He plans to play against the Ravens, and has not missed starting a game since coming back from his four-game suspension on October 17.
He has been wearing a reinforced boot in practice as well as when off of the field. The boot stabilizes his foot and yet allows enough movement to play. However, he has a heavy limp when he takes the boot off.
Bruce Arians, Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator, says that Roethlisberger’s injury will not impact the Steelers’ game plan against Baltimore, saying that Roethlisberger "just has to know what he can do to protect himself and I feel confident that he'll
be fine that way. But we won't change or do anything differently".
After being suspended for four games from allegations of sexual assault, Big Ben came back to throw an average of 19 completions out of an average 31 attempts. His best was in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins in which he threw 19 for 27 for 302 yards and
two TD passes with no interceptions, earning a 132.0 QB rating.
The Steelers are now at 8-3 and tied for 1st in the AFC North with the Ravens. They will play against the Ravens in what will classify as the first and second placed team in the AFC North, at 8:20 PM ET at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday December 5.
Stay tuned.
