NFL News: Brett Favre Leaves Game With Shoulder Injury

Minnesota Vikings’ Brett Favre is used to getting hit. With a long record of injuries over his 20 year career, Favre is now experiencing an injury that he’s never faced before.
Favre sprained his sternoclavicular joint in his right shoulder after being mowed down by Bills linebacker Arthur Moats on Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. The injury leaves the Favre unsure about whether he will be starting his 298th
straight regular season game.
"If we were talking ankles or elbows, thumbs or something like that, I would probably be a little more up to date on how to deal with it," Favre said after the Vikings beat the Bills, 38-14. "First time in 20 years I have ever done anything like that, so
it is kind of surprising."
The sternoclavicular (SC) joint is located at the meeting point between the breastbone and collarbone. Athletes usually get an acromioclavicular (AC) joint sprain, which is occurs most often "when a driver's chest strikes the steering wheel during an auto
accident, or when a person is crushed by an object," according to Harvard Health Publications.
For the Vikings QB, it was being crushed by an object. And a large one at that.
It was the third play of the game on Sunday’s game against the Bills. Moats came out of nowhere and took Favre down like a speeding truck just as he was about to pass. Moats, a 250-pound linebacker, crushed Favre as he landed on top of him on the turf.
The pass in question was intercepted by Drayton Florence with Favre still down on the ground. He did not get up for a while but managed to stagger to the sidelines. He was substituted by Tarvaris Jackson on the next possession.
"He took a pretty good l**k in the back as he was coming back and getting ready to throw the ball," said running back Adrian Peterson. "I know that didn't feel good. I don't know the extent of his injury or what's wrong with him, but obviously for him not
to come back in, it must've been painful."
Peterson helped the Vikings out in the win with 107 yards and three TDs.
Favre left the field and was attended by trainer Eric Sugarman, who took Favre to the locker room and then for x-rays. The x-ray revealed that he had no broken bones, and was at the sidelines for the rest of the game.
The team called that his return was questionable, but Favre said that there was no chance that he would have played well if he had gone back in.
"I stayed dressed because (third-string QB) Joe Webb had pulled his hamstring," Favre said. "So in case I had to go in I could hand it off, at least with my left hand. I couldn't throw. I tried to on the sidelines."
Favre says that he wants to play Saturday, but it has been a difficult year for him. He suffered a sore shoulder, two broken bones in his ankle, ten stitches on his chin, and tendinitis in his elbow.
Favre’s return for next week’s game at home against the New York Giants is listed as probable.
