NFL News: Brett Favre Still Unsure About Status For Game Against Giants
Brett Favre’s sprained shoulder is making it hard for him to do the most simple of things, such as pulling on his socks or putting on a shirt. So instead of rushing, he will wait a couple of days before deciding if he wants to play against the New York Giants
on Sunday.
On Wednesday, Favre says that he is not sure if he will be able to extend his NFL record of starting 297 straight regular season games, and be able to add a 298th. Coincidentally, his streak started against the Giants, and might end with them
too.
The star quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings hopes for a few more days of rest before making a decision, but interim head coach Leslie Frazier said that he “wouldn't be surprised if it goes right up until game time.”
His consecutive start record is one that he cherishes more than any other that he has achieved in his last 20 years in the NFL. However, if his record is broken on Sunday, Favre does not have a problem with it.
"It really hasn't crossed my mind this week that I've got to get out there to keep the streak going," Favre said. "I think the most important streak right now is we've won two in a row."
Favre said that it was unlikely that he would get much practice much this week, after missing Wednesday’s practice. He has played through a multitude of various injuries throughout the years that kept his incredible streak going, giving him a tough reputation
that has Frazier believing that he will play against the Giants in Week 14.
"Brett Favre is so, so unique when it comes to recovering from injuries," Frazier said. "I'm optimistic that he will be out there playing on Sunday."
In what is believed to be his final season, Favre has only become more of an “Iron Man.” He is currently playing with a left foot that has two broken bones. He also plays with tendinitis that affects his throwing elbow as well as injuries to his chin, neck,
calf, and back.
Favre says that this injury, a sprained sternoclavicular joint, is unlike any injury that he has had before. He isn’t sure how he will recover, saying that its different. He was crushed by Arthur Moats, linebacker for the Buffalo Bills, in the Vikes’ first
offensive drive of the game on Sunday. The injury is even more significant because it is in his throwing side, which put him out for the rest of the game.
"I know if I pull my shirt over my head right now, I'm going to feel it," Favre said. "And if you think that way in a game: 'Ooh, if I throw this hook, it's going to [hurt], I may want to throw it to the flat first,' then I probably shouldn't play.
Good thinking, Brett.
If Favre is unable to play, Tarvaris Jackson will start as QB against the Giants on Sunday December 12 at Mall of America Field.
Stay tuned!
