NFL News: Eagles Coach Andy Reid Concerned About Late Hits On QB Michael Vick
Ever since the New York Giants found a good way to keep Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick off of the top of his game in Week 11, he’s become less of a QB and more of a tackle bag.
In the Eagles’ last three games against the Giants, Chicago Bears, and Houston Texans, Vick has been sacked eight times, while the Eagles have sacked the opposing QB a total of only six times.
Aside from these sacks, Vick has been harassed, knocked down, and hurried throughout the game, said head coach Andy Reid, after watching Vick get hit after the whistle.
"It bothers me to be honest with you. That bothers me. I see the same thing you're seeing and it bothers me," Reid said. "He does run, but he's still the quarterback and you can't treat him like he's a running back there. That's not what the rules state."
Reid added, "I'll deal with the people I need to on that."
Sources say that the Eagles are currently in the process of making NFL officials aware of their concerns.
When Reid was asked if he had filed a complaint, he responded by saying “I can’t say anything.”
Vick led the Eagles in their eighth win on Thursday in both passing and rushing, defeating Houston 34-24. He threw for two TDs and one go-ahead rushing TD. Philly is now 8-4, just half a game against the Giants for the NFC East lead.
For his hard work, Vick had souvenirs of sores and bruises.
"I'm used to taking hits. It's not that bad," Vick said after the game. "If I take one and I lay down, then I took a good one. But I'm a pretty tough guy. I bounce back when I can. There's no science to getting hit, or protecting yourself."
Vindictive Vick’s comeback to the NFL after a prison sentence or running an illegal dog-fighting operation continues with his third 300+ yard game and completed 22 of 33 passes in his last game. He missed three games early in the season due to injured ribs,
but came back in a big way.
"He got knocked around a little bit," Reid said Thursday. "He got back up and kept going. I loved his energy in the second half."
The Eagles will play their next game against the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium on Sunday December 12 at 8:20 PM ET.
Stay tuned!
