NFL News: Ex-Buccaneer Keith McCants Arrested For Cocaine Possession
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Keith McCants was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, being charged with possession of cocaine.
Police said that McCants was stopped by police after leaving a strip club parking lot in his car, just after midnight on Wednesday.
Police say that they stopped McCants because he did not stop while leaving a private road onto the main road. When the police stopped him, they saw a crack pipe in the center console.
Police then searched the rest of the car and found a piece of crack in a female passenger’s purse.
Both Christina Shamika Campbell, the female passenger, and McCants were arrested and their vehicle seized by the police.
This is not the first time that McCants has gotten into trouble. In November of 2007, he was arrested for driving without insurance. Instead of paying a $610 fine, he served a ten day sentence in March of 2008.
Back in February of 2008, McCants was arrested by Mobile Police, charged with loitering for the purpose of drug activity as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on bail and then later convicted and sentenced to one year probation and
a substance abuse program. He was then arrested six days after his hearing for not showing up in court.
In March of 2008, police in Prichard, Alabama arrested McCants. He was charged with loitering, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. McCants threw a crack pipe, screwdriver, and pair of pliers at a police officer shortly before being subdued
with a Taser gun.
Can it get much worse for McCants?
Well, yes it can.
About a year later, in December of 2009, McCants was arrested once again on charges of loitering for the purpose of drug activity and possession of drug paraphernalia in Mobile, Alabama.
He sure seems to love his drugs.
Less than five months later, McCants was arrested for attempting to purchase drugs from a hotel in Mobile.
Less than a month later, on June 2, 2010, narcotics officers in Mobile arrested McCants for the use and possession of drug paraphernalia.
And of course, his latest arrest for cocaine possession.
McCants is considered one of the biggest busts in NFL history. He was picked up by the Bucs in the 1990 NFL Draft. He was picked fourth in the first round and played for three teams in his five years as a professional.
McCants is still awaiting a court date for his latest offense.
