NFL Preseason? ?

Question

Instead of having 4 preseason games and 16 regular season games, should the NFL cut a preseason game and make another regular season game? This game could be in a netrual stadium (major college stadium) or in a different country. Ideas?

The preseason games give the coaches a better look at the prospective players - in real play - not just in practice.  I would think that the coaches need AT LEAST 4 preseason games to weed out the players.  But, I wouldn't mind having a few more regular season games to go to - I can't get into the preseason games.  They don't mean much to me!

they should drop 2 preseason games and add 4 to the regular season...it would only make the season two weeks longer...

As much as I would LOVE a longer season, I am not sure the players would be able to stay healthy long enough to play more games.... Most of the starters don't play much if any of the preseason games for that reason

I think they should just flat out give us a longer season. At least 20 regular season games. the NFL season doesn't last long enough.

I agree with you all the way, except for the fact of a game being in another country.  Honestly, no one else in the world really gives a rats *** about American Football, it's just not popular with other countries like it is here in the originating country of USA. Plus, that would be hard for the true fans to go travel to see a team they love some thousands of miles away.  Let's just keep the sport here in America, and if other countries want to come see us, let them.  IF they want us that bad they will come and find us,  USA let's everyone go through our borders anyways, might as well.  I like the neutral idea better.  No home team no away team.  Like the Red River Shootout for OU and UT, it's in Dallas every year, whoever plays better that year, and like many bowl games in college.  People say that a home team is someone, but it's not the same as playing in your actual home stadium a mix of fans....it be a great outcome I bet.

They are talking about shortening the preseason down to two games and adding those two game to the regular season.

Personally, I love a 4 game preseason.

It gives us a first glimpse at the rookies and it is extremely helpful for them to get some actual NFL gametime experience. You have to give them more than two games before throwing them to the wolves.

Second, it helps the coaches decide who they will have at their starting spots (My niners choose their new QB after this third game!) and it let's the players either get into better shape and into the form of things or it let's players like Manning or Brady heal up from any offseason surgery they may have had to have.

That being said, I think they should just make the season more games. These guys get paid waaaay too much to only play 16 games (excluding whoever reaches playoffs)

Pre-season is there for guys to try and make the team. 4 games gives Coaches time to evaluate the starters, give lesser known players a chance to impress and get everyone match fit.

Whoever said make the season shorter and get right to the playoffs must be some basketball freak who busted into NFL by mistake, only teams with winning records should make the payoffs, even if you win your division with an 8-8 record I don't think you should be eligible for playoff contention.

If we want more games let's get the league to add teams.

I agree the preseason is too long. I say shorten it by two weeks, play 16 regular season games and put 2 or 4 more teams from each conference in the playoffs and make them a couple of  weeks longer.

It would be good for football and great for the fans.  

Alot of teams with winning records miss the playoffs. They come on strong at the end of the year only to be screwed out of the playoffs by a team resting starters that are already in the playoffs and have home field locked.

If anything I would Make the Regular Season 2 games longer and shorten the Preseason by 2 games, a trade off, Add a Bye Week Between Preseason & Regular Season for Whole NFL, make a 20 week season, w/ 18 Games Per Team. and then a 2nd bye week for each team, 1/2 the teams in weeks 5 & then the other 1/2 of the teams in weeks 6, and then again in weeks 12 & 13. Then have 8 seeds, 2 wild card weeks, the 2nd best teams in every division.

This Would Prevent teams such as the Browns Whom had a 10-6 record & 2nd in division in 2007-09 from being cut out, and better representation from every division.

Add 2 Games, trade 2 preseason games. (18 Reg. Season Games)
