NFL Quarterbacks who matter
Michael Vick, one of the great quarterbacks in 2006, mastered the art of movement in pocket although he wasn’t the first in achieving so. A quarterback’s modern day job includes thinking and making out things from where nothing is possible. However had this list been made in 2006, then surely Michael would have been included but today he is not. We shall bring into discussion some quarter backs who have an edge over the others heading into the 2010 season.
Donovan McNabb is in at number 5 in this list. Now at an old age, he is more of a pocket passer. McNabb is without a doubt one the best players in the league when it comes to extending plays in the pockets. The experienced quarterback not only has a great pocket presence but along with this, his speed can hurt any type of defence when he runs. He is known as “The Runner”, and is one of the most under-rated players of NFL. The question that remains to be answered is that whether or not this speed thriller can win a Super Ball or not.
The movement that the Denver player Jay Cutler makes has helped him to master the art of rolling out of the pockets. Not only this, he distracts the defences that has a great deal of impact. His big arm is one deadly weapon he possesses. Jay Cutler was made to play behind a weak offensive line last season and this was the reason for an ordinary season. The Young Gun as he is called can become a big player if he gets some extra protection in the offense.
Brett Favre, nick named “The Silver Fox” is an old man but he still has it. The silver fox can be compared to the young Jay Cutler. The Silver Fox’s combination of deceptive plays and powerful throws under pressure make him a formidable QB. His ability to pass playersand unmatched toughness is the main reason for his success, coupled with his speed. The silver fox’s performance at the NFC Championship Game was legendary. Though the Vikings took a beating, if it wasn’t for his efforts, they wouldn’t have had a chance of winning. The upcoming season will tell if whether this player will become more determined or will the wear and tear affect his performance.
Tony Romo, known by some as a player who is over-rated and by some as distracted. No matter whatever they think of him, it remains a fact that he makes plays. The exciting quarterback is expected to get crushed when giant players rush towards him but suddenly you see all other players on the ground and Romo running with his head down eying his goal. The young quarterback’s deceptiveness is one that hides how quick and agile he is in the pocket. He is regarded as the “Pretty Boy” and Vikings made an example out of him in the divisional round. This exciting, young player is not counted in any sort of plays by some while he is a future prospect. Who is right and, who is wrong remains to be seen.
Ben Roethlisberger, given the nick of “The Extender” is one of the big guns in the game. This big gun can fire whenever you need a play with a few minutes remaining in the game. Big Ben, as he is also called is one of those players who are always able to make something out of nothing. This is the reason that this giant figure is not strictly a quarterback but his diverse skills make him a complete NFL package. The Extender has the ability to move in and out of players coming in his path and to dodge pass them. His strength to break free from other giants in his way adds to his credentials. This NFL player can make throws from any angle and anywhere giving him an edge over the others. Ben will surely play an important role if the Steelers are to make it to the playoffs.
