NFL Recap - Denver Broncos vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 1st and 2nd quarter
The exciting game between the Broncos and Bengals took place at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati on 15th August, 2010 with a kickoff start at 7:00 pm ET.
NFL fans were looking forward to the matchup between the franchises as Tim Tebow was to make his debut with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are led by Josh McDaniel’s as the head coach, Cincinnati by Marvin Lewis.
Highlights of 1st Quarter
The game started off with 66 yard kick by Mike Nugget from the Cincinnati Bengals to Denver Broncos’ Perrish Cox, who returned 24 yards to Den 28 and was tackled by Brandon Johnson. Next pass was by Kyle Orton to Jabar Gaffney in deep middle for 31 yards to the Cincinnati 41, tackled by Chinedum Ndukwe.
By 13:14 Lance Ball rushed to the right for 4 yards to the Cin 25 and was tackled hard by defensive tackler Tank Johnson and wide receiver Roy Williams. Kyle Orton made an incomplete pass, which was intended for Jabar Gaffney. Penalty was marked on Cin 99 Tank Johnson for roughing the passer.
Followed by the penalty Broncos made their 1st touchdown after Orton passed to the middle to Eddie Royal for 12 yards for a touchdown.
Matt Prater made an extra point and kicked off to the Cin 16 Bernard Scott for 10 yards who was tackled by Wesley Woodyard.
At 12:13 Cedric Benson rushed to the left but gained none and was tackled by Andre’ Goodman. QB Carson Palmer passed the ball to the right to Terrell Owens, who short passed it to Cin 32 and was tackled by linebacker Wesley Woodyard.
The Cincinnati struggled through the 1st quarter by continuous short passing with a 44 yard field gold attempt, which was missed made by Dave Rayner. While Kyle Orton made another pass to Brandon Lloyd for a 6 yard touchdown with another extra point made by Matt Prater.
The matches 1st quarter ended with a score of 14-0.
Highlights of 2nd Quarter
2nd quarter started with Carson Palmer pass to Terrell Owens for 8 yards to the Den 47, who was tackled by corner back Alphonso Smith. Bernard Scott rushed to the right for only 1 yard to the Den 46, tackled by nose tackler Ronald Fields.
After consecutive short passes Carlson Palmer made a long pass to the middle caught by Jordan Shipley for 13 yards to Den 6, tackled by linebacker Akin Ayodele. Cedric Benson finally rushed to the right for 5 yards near the Broncos line making another yard after that for a touchdown.
Mike Nugent kicked off to the Den 3 Perrish Cox, who returned for 21 yards to the Denver 24 and was eventually tackled by Johnny Sears. Brady Quinn made three consecutive incomplete passes after which Britton Colquitt punted a 60 yards to Cin16 Quan Cosby, who returned for 17 yards to Cin 33 and was ultimately tackled by Perrish Cox.
Cincinnati Bengals got the ball possession once again but ceased to make another touchdown after several attempts. J.T. O’Sullivan made three back to back incomplete passes as Dave Rayner finally made a successful 36 yard field goal attempt.
The 2nd quarter ended with Broncos scoring 3 points and Bengals 13 without any touchdowns.
