Every sport has players that are constantly making the headlines like LeBron James of Miami Heat, Peyton Manning and last but not the least, the legendary golfer Tiger Woods. Tim Tebow is also in this list where his rookie presence in the NFL is hyped. The young player hasn’t had the experience and the career that the above-mentioned players have as yet but is well on course. The amount of talent that this player possess along with the hard work that this youngster has put in without a doubt puts him in the list for the upcoming stars and the face of NFL in the future. Today we will discuss Tim Tebow’s rookie debut in the preseason with in depth evaluation of his play.
Tim was taken by the Denver Broncos in a deal that surprised everybody and made him a celebrity after he was 25th overall pick in the draft. The 33-million-dollar contract, his shirt being amongst the most selling, and the fun part in the Broncos during which his team mates gave him a haircut, made this rookie the headlines for every reason.
Yesterday saw Tim finally get on the field with his debut after making his first official appearance against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Although everybody thought that this player was more of a second option or rather backup for the injured players, and was bound to struggle during the first few seasons but after his good performance in Sunday’s game he proved all of them wrong. The Broncos put in Brady Quinn in place of Kyle Orton after the latter came up with two touchdowns. However, this proved to be disastrous, as the team saw Quinn come up with 14.6 passer rating. The dreadful performance by the player caused Broncos lead go from 14-0 to a deficit of 17-23. It was time that Quinn was put on bench, while Tim took over his position.
Tim took part for the first time in the game when 4.48 seconds were left in the third quarter and saw the Bengals give a mix response, when Tim came on the field. The very first action by this player was a swing pass to Marquez Branson for five yards. The pass being inch perfect and competing in his first game as pro further convinced the critics that Tim was a star on his way. The main highlight on his debut could have been the perfect strike to Matt Willis but the pass was dropped leaving his effort useless.
Tim saw himself play in the second role that was assigned to him after the Broncos were being outscored 30-3, and was put to the task to make a drive. Tim is indeed a very young and talented superstar. During the match he relied on using his strength and avoiding a sack on second down and managing to make a seven yard pass to end the move.
After the Bengals were leading by 16 and with 5.35 remaining, Tim came to the field again completing two out of his four pass attempts establishing a 56.3 passing rate. Not only this, Tim managed to come up with his first and a very memorable drive. After this Tim opened up and his game started to get better and better as the Bengals saw their defence line being frequently bombarded by Tim’s passes or his drives. Throwing check down passes and running an effectively two-minute’s offense showed signs that the player was already developing. Taking on what the defence put in his way the youngster seemed to have every answer to the Bengals tactics.
The end of the game saw him finish with eight out of thirteen complete passes with a passer rating of 87.0 over 105 yards. Tim was greatly appreciated all over for the performance he had put up after a slow start.
The rookie challenges that were put in front of Tim, he put a solid performance to counter them. With the performance that he put up, Tim not only displayed his toughness but also his potential to be a great player in the coming future.
