NFL Update: Brett Favre's record comes to a halt
The record number of consecutive starts in the National Football league (NFL) by Brett Favre has ended after 297 straight starts. His streak started from way back in 1992 but it ended before he was unable to start in the match against the New York Giants.
The 41 year old NFL player suffered a shoulder injury during the match against the Buffalo on December five.
His team, the Vikings hoped that Favre would be fit in time for the match against the Giants as the match was delayed due to a roof collapse in Metrodome. This time was not enough though for the veteran to recover from his shoulder injury.
His team was also hopeful that he will be a part of the match as Favre also participated before in matches with a broken foot and elbow tendonitis this season. The injury was caused to him after Arthur Moats collapsed in him.
Moats had mixed emotions on the injury of Favre. He stated that, “I don’t want to see anybody hurt and playing no more. If he plays again that would be a good thing, but if he doesn’t and I was the guy to end his streak, all right. That’s a little notable.”
This injury may cause him his career as Favre has had a tough season this year. He has been injured many times this season and not only had he been playing with fractures and tendonitis but he has had ten stitches in his chin and some back problems.
He was also investigated by the NFL on a scandal he was involved in regarding a game-day hostess. The allegations were that he had sent some inappropriate messages and some photos to her. The investigation has continued for more than two months but no verdict
has been out until now.
Favre is the only player to receive the AP most valuable player award three consecutive times from 1995-97. Apart from this, he holds many other records including most career touchdown passes, most careers passing yards, most career pass completions, most
consecutive starts and most fumbles.
It will be sad if his career ends with an injury but he has been one of the most dominant names in the NFL history.
