NFL Update: Dez Bryant, part of the Cowboys
Dez Bryant became the first NFL player to strike a deal in the first round draft pick. He signed a contract of about 11.8 million dollars and out of which 8.3 million dollars he is surely to receive. The key to this deal being struck is the fact that Bryant is in San Antonio and will take part in the training camp. After the training camp, he is expected to be a part of the practice that is going to take place on Saturday. One can assume that he might even push Roy Williams to start his job opposite to Miles Austin earlier than was supposed to.
Bryant in a conference said that he was very eager to take part in the practice. He also expressed his feelings on the fact that he would work hard and try to achieve success with his new Cowboy team. He added that he was very eager and waiting to play football again.
During the last season, Bryant only managed to take part in 3 Oklahoma State matches. His last season was a bizarre one in which he got suspended due to lying to the investigators. His meeting with NCAA raised questions about his integrity; after he met, the Cowboys star Deion Sanders.
Everybody talked about him being late to training sessions. Not only that, he skipped meetings and classes. Some of the NFL managers like Jeff Ireland raised the question of his mother being a prostitute.
The Cowboy’s hunger to bring Dez Bryant and be a part of then was so great, that when they saw Bryant slipping in the draft, they moved to No. 24 and got a hold of him. Team owner Jerry Jones expressed his happiness on this matter or draft pick as you can say.
On meeting Bryant’s agent Parker, Jones said that now that they are a part of the Cowboy team, they shall concentrate on what the future has installed for them. He also added that they need to forget the past and make sure not to repeat the mistakes that led to the mayhem last season.
The team’s vice president also issued a statement in which he not only praised the Parker, but also Bryant. He expressed his joy on the matter that both of them agreed on a deal and that too on the evening of the practice session of the Cowboys team.
Parker in relation to this statement being issued said that the deal was successfully pulled off due to his good relation with Jones. He added that some of the critical issues were dealt with great intelligence due to the strong relation and the trust they had in each other.
The issues that were raised had the lack of a collective bargaining agreement that would start in 2011. This is the reason why other first round picks have not yet signed any deals as yet. However, both the sides compromised and then finally found a way through. Both parties kept in mind each other’s concerns and challenges which enabled them to further strengthening the already strong relationship that they had.
Jerry Jones honoured Parker by giving him one of the most important jerseys in the history of Cowboys. The shirt was worn by Michael Irvin and also by Drew Pearson. Both players proved to be great players by earning the respect of many.
Irvin and Pearson were Troy Aikman’s and Roger Staubach’s favourite target. Who knows the deal that took place on Thursday might also add up to the list. Without a doubt the relation between both of them, Jones and Bryant is very strong. Moreover, both the sides intend to make the ties even further as they move on.
Jones also said that it is vital for Bryant to work with Tony to make up a good a strong offense. The level of trust on both sides is so much that he himself later added in accordance to what he said that Bryant understood each and every part of it.
Bryant has managed 147 catches with 16.5 yards per catch and has 29 touchdowns to his name in his Oklahoma career.
What remains to be seen is that how he performs at the Cowboys and whether or not the strong relations that both sides have shown till the deal was signed, remains even after it or not.
