NFL Update: MVP Watch Week 12 (Part 4)
Last but not least on our Week 12 NFL Watch is Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. In his last two games, Rodgers has thrown seven TD passes and no interceptions. Green Bay has now won four in a row, but their next games against Atlanta and New England will prove
whether Rodgers deserves MVP honors, seeing as his last two games were against Dallas and Minnesota, who weren’t much of a challenge at the time. Rodgers has moved to the number ten slot after not even being on the chart last week.
In his last game, Rodgers completed 22 passes out of 31 attempts for 301 yards and 4 TDs, giving him an incredible QB rating of 141.3. So far this season, Rodgers has completed 214 of 334 attempts for 2601 yards, with his longest pass being for 86 yards.
He has had 19 TDs and 9 interceptions while being sacked 20 times, giving him a season passer rating of 95.7.
A former wide receiver for Dallas Cowboys is known as “Mr. Clutch.” Drew Pearson was called Mr. Clutch after making many clutch catches in game winning moments. New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez is now being called another Mr. Clutch in recent weeks, since Sanchez
made the difference in a win and loss in the team’s ongoing three game winning streak. Although he is the 22nd best passer in the NFL, Sanchez is an increasing force. Before Week 8 of the Regular Season, Sanchez never had more than 272 yards in
a game, but in his last four starts, he is averaging 301.5 yards per game.
Some highlights of Sanchez over the last few weeks include a winning TD pass to Santonio Holmes against the Cowboys with 16 seconds left in the game. He also threw a 37 yard TD pass to Holmes against the Browns in overtime, as well as a 52 yard pass to Holmes
in overtime against the Lions to set the team up for the game winning field goal.
Although Sanchez is called Mr. Clutch, it would be fair to say that the Jets had a mostly easy schedule, with their upcoming game against the Bengals as the same. Cincinnati has had problems with their defense and is now considered the worst team in the
NFL. However, even before, the Jets actually managed to defeat the Patriots and have lost to the Ravens and Packers. The rest of their games since Week 1 were against the less experience teams in the NFL, most of which are currently having problems with their
players, such as injuries, and coaches.
It might be prudent at this point to mention that although Michael Vick is rated as number four on the MVP Watch; it is still quite an accomplishment since he missed 4½ weeks due to a rib injury. If he had played for those games, his stats would be quite
higher.
With only five weeks worth of games left in the Regular Season, it is only a matter of time before the season MVP is awarded, but the favorite so far this season is Rivers of the Chargers. Stay tuned!
