NFL Update: San Diego Chargers place Mike Tolbert and Stephen Cooper on injured reserve
The San Diego Chargers lose two more players after having already lost tight end Antonio Gates. Joining Gates would be line backer Stephen Cooper and running back Mike Tolbert. Gates was first put on IR this Thursday. He has suffered from a torn plantar
fascia throughout the season before being placed on injured reserve.
Meanwhile, Tolbert sprained his neck last week when the San Diego Chargers were defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals. He only attempted four rushes in that game. The running back has carried the ball 182 times for the Chargers this season and rushed over 700
yards. He is also responsible for 11 touchdowns. Tolbert has the ability to change the game for the Chargers. He has rushed over a 100 yards three times this season and the Chargers won all three of those games.
In week 4, against the Arizona Cardinals, Tolbert played his first 100 yard game of the season which the Chargers won 41-10. He then played back-to-back 100 yards games in week 11 and 12 against the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts. San Diego won
both games with more than 20 points spread. In the final week, the Chargers would face the Broncos again but Tolbert won’t be playing.
Line backer Cooper has made 43 tackles for the Chargers this season. He has forced two fumbles, one against the Oakland Raiders and in week 12 against the Colts. His only interception of the season also came against the Colts.
Wide receiver Patrick Crayton (wrist), line backer Larry English (foot) and running back Jacob Hester are also doubtful. None of them participated in practice.
The Chargers have already lost the division title to the Kansas City Chiefs. Their division rivals, the Denver Broncos are doing much worse and have won only 4 of 15 games so far in the season.
