NFL Update: Tim Tebow’s debut evaluation playing for the Denver Broncos
LeBron James was the most talked about athlete in the NBA; just like that, Tim Tebow had been the highlight of National Football League (NFL) this year.
Fans cheered across the field, as Tim Tebow made a comeback to NFL this year. Tebow made his debut this Sunday in a preseason, playing for the Denver Broncos against the Cincinnati Bengals. The rookie QB finished the game with 8 of 13 for 105 yards, however Bengals won by 33-24.
The question is, did anyone accept such a performance from Tebow?
After playing at college level for the University of Florida, Tim was drafted this year by the Denver Broncos as the 25th pick overall in the first round. He signed on to a five-year deal worth $11.25 million as a base salary.
Denver’s head coach Josh McDaniels told the press he wanted a strong, smart and a player who is passionate about football and Tebow was an excellent choice for them. McDaniels also stated Tebow had all the right traits one could look for.
However, critics did what they do best; conclude Tim would be a total failure as a professional. However, Tim proved everyone wrong after his stellar performance at the Sunday preseason showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals.
After Brady Quin’s terrible performance on field, he was made to sit on the bench and Tim was called upon in the third quarter. Cincinnati fans booed loudly as Tim jogged onto the field, but that did not demoralize the 6’3” beast. He told the media later, he heard them jeer and it got him more excited to go out there and perform.
Tibow landed a touchdown in his final drive against the Cincinnati’s, as he left an orange guard on the ground, while two Bengals defenders Abdul Hodge and Kyries Hebert took him down hard but the determined played bounced right back up on his feet.
When Tebow was asked what was going through his mind when he hit his first touchdown by the reporters, he said, "I saw an opening, so I went to go get it and thankfully got in there".
So is it time to make Tim Tebow as the starter for the team?
Kyle Orton fans were afraid Tebow would over shadow him, but Orton did not stop from throwing a remarkable performance by two touchdowns making sure the Bronco’s was still the big dog. Orton has shown great sportsmen spirit and has seemed to be encouraged by all the importance that has been given to Tim Tebow.
Tebow entered the third quarter with only 4:48 minutes left on the clock; he started off with a five-yard swing pass to Marquez Branson. Followed by a handoff to Bruce Hall who kicked it to Matt Willis, sadly the fans anticipated it to be the highlight of the game resulted into a drop pass.
The 23 year old Tebow showed great strength and agility, as he passed the ball down to Britt Davis by seven yards avoiding a big sack on second down. Nevertheless, Bengals made another score, but Tim stayed focused and equated 56.3 passer rating.
On his final drive, he wasted no time he ran at the offense testing his own abilities. He used his intellect to make the best of his defence, with only three seconds remaining on the clock; he refused to hesitate, making a seven yard touchdown.
Tebow not only made a notable debut but has already gained a huge fan following, setting a record in the NFL Draft for selling the most jerseys in one month. He will also be appearing in the NCAA Football 11 game cover.
Tebow’s college accolades include, two Maxwell Award, Heisman Trophy, NCAA QB of the Year, Manning Award, William V. Campbell Trophy, Associated Press (AP) player of the year and several other awards and titles.
