NFL Week 13: A look at the wide receivers
Anquan Boldin for the Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens and the Steelers are two sides that do not leave much wiggle room for a wide receiver. The offense took a back seat to the physicality of the defence and for a wide receiver to catch 118 yards in that game is quite an achievement.
Anquan Boldin caught the only touchdown the Baltimore Ravens scored. The first time Boldin’s hands touched the ball he carried the ball 61 yards for the Ravens. His second reception of the game was a 14 yard touchdown. Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco tried
to throw to Boldin again but after the 61 yard pass and the touchdown, he caught the attention of the Pittsburgh defence. Boldin caught 3 more passes in the game for 16, 8 and 19 yards in Baltimore’s final drive of the game and their last chance of staging
a comeback against the Steelers.
He was the cornerstone of whatever little offense the Ravens were able to mount against the Steelers. He averaged 23.6 yards on Sunday and scored his 7th touchdown of the season. Boldin has 770 yards for 56 receptions this season. His performance
against Pittsburgh puts him in third place in wide receiver rankings of the week.
Greg Jennings for the Green Bay Packers
Greg Jennings was the third best wide receiver this week after taking 122 yards from just 6 receptions. Jennings has been exceptional for the past few weeks and has proved indispensible for the Green Bay Packers. Last week he covered 119 yards in just 5
receptions and 152 for 7 receptions the week before. He has scored 5 touchdowns in the past three games and in each one he averaged over 20 yards per carry. Jennings has one of the highest averages in the league and one of Aaron Rodgers favourite targets when
it comes to making big plays.
Early in the second quarter of the game between the Packers and the San Francisco 49ers, Jennings scored the first touchdown of the game. He caught a 57 yards touchdown pass from Rodgers. Jennings caught the ball deep left and fought off two defenders to
score the touchdown.
Later in the 3rd quarter, Jennings set up another Green Bay touchdown with a 48 yard reception which was stopped just 3 yards short of the end zone. In the end Jennings did pick up the 1 yard touchdown pass to score his second touchdown of the
game. The 57 and 48 yard passes not only cemented the Packers’ victory, they put Greg Jennings in second place in the wide receiver rankings for the week.
Reggie Wayne for the Indianapolis Colts
Although the Indianapolis Colts lost this Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, no one could deny that they put up a h**l of a fight. A big part of the Colts’ offense was Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne. He caught 14 passes in the game for a phenomenal 200
yards and an average of 14.3 yards per carry. He caught a 34 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Peyton Manning’s. One of two touchdowns passes of the game. Wayne also set up Indianapolis’ 4th quarter touchdown. In that drive he first caught a
17 pass and then a 40 yard pass. He was stopped just one yard short of the end zone.
Later in the fourth quarter Wayne again proved to be the driving force behind the Colts’ offense. He caught 5 passes in the drive for a total of 67 yards. Javarris James for the second time rushed the final yards for touchdown but the credit goes Wayne for
setting up the drive.
Over the past weeks Wayne has caught 1,107 yards in a total of 90 receptions. He averages 12.3 yards per carry and has scored 5 touchdowns for Indianapolis this season. Wayne didn’t make huge plays against the Cowboys. He instead consistently gained yards
for the Colts and made important plays when the Colts needed him to perform. His 200 yards in week 13 put him above all other wide receivers for the week.
