NFL betting: Week two
So week one didn’t go so well. The Colts lost, as did the Falcons and our other pick, the Packers, nearly blew a comfortable lead – don’t forget upset of the week, Detroit, would have won if Calvin Johnson didn’t drop the ball in the endzone.
This week no such mistakes will be made, picks chosen will be coming through and money will be made.
New England Patriots @ New York Jets
The Pats’ offence is going to be good provided Tom Brady stays injury free. The Bengals found that out last Sunday, when the Patriots scored 24 points before they could get on the board. The Jets only managed six first downs against the Ravens on Monday night.
Though New England’s defence isn’t as strong as Baltimore’s, they faced a team with a better offence than the Jets, in Cincinnati, and coped pretty well.
The Jets’ defence will be without Kris Jenkins for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament, giving Tom Brady an advantage he didn’t really need.
The Jets’ lack of offence and New England’s countless offensive weapons, make them a pretty good bet in week two.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Detroit Lions
Anyone who saw what Michael Vick did for the Eagles last week will have noticed he looks like the Vick of old. For the Lions that should be, and is, a worrying sign. He made 16 of 24 passes for 175 yards with a touchdown and added 103 rushing yards. His arm and legs will be hard to stop, the Lions might have to just pick their poison and try shut one part of his game down.
The Lions will be without their starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, who suffered a separated shoulder against the Chicago Bears last week, a blow made bigger by the fact Vick will be starting. If the Lions had any chance of winning it was to use a combination Stafford and running back Jahvid Best - who made his NFL debut last week scored two touchdowns -that plan now goes out of the window.
Shaun Hill will take Stafford’s place, though he covered well for last week, Stafford’s absence will be the key to the game and as a result the Eagles are the team to back.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Cleveland Browns
Both these teams are pretty bad but one team is 0-1 and the other is 1-0 with a pretty big win over the San Diego Chargers.
The Chiefs pulled off one of the upsets of week one by beating the Chargers, while the Browns suffered a pretty demoralizing defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Though the Chiefs’ win over San Diego, looks impressive on paper, in reality it was a tough win in which they used two big plays on special teams to claim victory.
But a win like that can put the wind in a team’s sail and against the Browns, Kansas should have too much talent and momentum.
Browns quarterback, Jake Delhomme sprained his right ankle while throwing a game-swinging interception last Sunday's and will likely be missing on Sunday. That absence gives Kansas the edge this weekend.
