NFL fines Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive end Trent Cole – NFL News
The National Football League has fined Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Trent Cole, who tackled Seattle Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung during the week 13 game as a result of which the latter got injured and had his season
ended. Unfortunately, the move was made after the referee’s whistle that prompted the league to look into the matter and penalise the offender.
A day after the game, Okung was diagnosed with a torn right pectoral muscle.
Cole confirmed on Wednesday that he has been fined $7,500. However, he insisted that he is not a dirty player.
"I'm not a dirty player," Cole said. "At the time, all the stuff that led up to that, there was a lot of stuff that happened in that game. ... Watch that game closely and key on Okung and key on me and you'll see what I'm talking
about."
After the game, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had urged the league to take action and suspend Cole for what they termed ‘dirty play’. The coach also said that the hit was out of line.
Cole has been playing for Eagles since the year 2005. This year, he has played 10 games and recorded 27 tackles and six sacks. During the game against Seahawks, he managed three tackles and a sack.
The 29-year-old defensive end believes that he was hooked by Okung during the game.
"The guy was on my back after the whistle. He was holding me the whole game. If you look at that play he had me hooked. I'm running to the ball and he had me hooked," he said.
Cole said that some people were comparing him Detroit Lions’ Ndamukong Suh, who has been fined by the league in the form of a two-game ban without pay for aggressively tackling Green Bay Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith in the
week 12 game. He did not like being compared with Suh and said that his situation was much more different than the Lions defensive tackle
"You can't possibly compare me to Suh. It's not like I stomped on a guy or anything like that."
There are unconfirmed reports that Cole might appeal the fine.
