NFL imposes $75,000 fine on Jets’ coach, Rex Ryan – NFL News
New York Jets' coach, Rex Ryan has been fined $75,000 fine on Monday for yelling profanities at a fan. The fine, one of the largest in the history of NFL was handed over by the Commissioner of NFL Roger Goodell. An official notice
was delivered to Ryan on Monday morning.
The incident had occurred at MetLife Stadium over a week back when a fan’s remark that New England Patriots Bill Belichick was a better coach had incensed him to use foul language against him. Ryan was already upset over his team’s
trailing 13-9 behind the New England Patriots at that time. The remark had been recorded on a camera and put on the internet. Ryan had immediately apologized over the incident.
"I obviously made a mistake. I was full of emotion and just popped off. Obviously, I know I represent the League, I know I represent the Jets, and I know it was a mistake. I apologize for it.” Ryan said.
However, the matter could not be closed with merely an apology. Ryan’s earlier involvement in such an incident could have contributed towards the heavy fine.
Ryan appeared calm over the decision saying he wanted to forget the incident. He understood the commissioner with whom he had talked a few days back to apologize over the incident. He said, "Quite honestly, the man's made a decision,
and if his decision is that I should be fined $75,000, then that's the way it is. I just want to get it behind me. The commissioner has a tough enough job. I'm an NFL lifer and I know I represent the NFL and represent the Jets, so I'm accountable for my actions
and I will not appeal it."
This is the second time that Ryan has gotten himself into such a situation. In early 2010, Ryan made an indecent gesture at a fan during a martial arts event which drew in a hefty fine of $50,000 by the Jets.
The New York Jets management has stayed away from the matter saying it was the matter of the League. The main reason behind this move may have been that the incident occurred during a game.
