NFL names Michael Vick NFC Offensive Player of the Week
It was not like there was going to be any debate over who was going to be named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, but the NFL made it official on Tuesday. This is the second week that Michael Vick
takes home the honour, but this time he did it in record-setting fashion.
Vick became the first player in the league’s history to throw for 300 yards, rush for 50 yards, throw four scores and rush for two touchdowns in one game. "I've had some great games in my day, but I don't
think I've had one quite like this one,” Vick said after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Redskins 59-28 on Monday Night Football.
On the night where Vick completed 20 of 28 for 333 yards, the Pro Football Hall of Fame requested that his game jersey be placed in their shrine in Canton, Ohio.
It is simply remarkable what Vick has managed to overcome just 18 months removed from leaving federal prison on a dog fighting conviction. Vick, who was also named NFC Offensive Player of the Month in
September, has become a more technical and fundamentally sound player, compared to his days in Atlanta.  He understands the game batter and is making a solid case for the league's highest honour in terms of individual achievements.
"He's got my MVP vote," Redskins’ London Fletcher said, via
The Washington Post. "I don't have one, but if I did he definitely would have it because of his ability to extend plays. And the weapons that they have, the offence that they have, he was just ridiculous tonight. He's the MVP of the league. He still
hasn't thrown an interception."
With three NFC Offensive Player of the Week awards already after 11 weeks of football, it will be interesting to see how many more Vick can pile up before the season ends.
