If Brett Favre is able to throw, he will most likely start as quarterback in the Minnesota Vikings’ game against the New York Giants.
If Favre is able to start next week against the Giants, he will extend his NFL record to 298 consecutive starts.
Interim head coach for the Vikings Leslie Frazier says that he would be very much surprised if Favre doesn’t play.
"From what I've been told, rest is probably key," Frazier said Monday. "That's going to be number one, and they'll do some exercises with him to help him as well. It's just a matter of rest and then the rehab that they're going to put him through."
Frazier also said that Favre is being evaluated constantly, and it is still unknown whether or not he will practice.
"When we go through the week, just seeing how his throwing motion is and what he can and can't tolerate," Frazier said.
The 20-year-old professional can take a lot of hits and has, but the sprained sternoclavicular joint that he sustained on the first series of their game against the Buffalo Bills was an injury that he never experienced before.
"I really thought he'd come back in the game, just knowing Brett," Frazier said. "As hard as I saw him get hit [Sunday], I've seen him take harder hits and bounce back and come back and play. There's nobody tougher than Brett Favre to ever play the quarterback
position."
Favre acknowledged that he was uncertain about his new injury.
Frazier also said that Favre’s safety and overall success of the team is more important than Favre’s streak.
Arthur Moats, rookie linebacker for the Bills, was the player who sacked Favre and knows that he will be remembered as the one who ended his streak.
The Vikings say that they will wait until Favre is able to practice before releasing his status for Sunday’s game.
