What does this mean???

"....but because Booty was a fifth-round draft pick from a prominent program—Southern California—it would have been difficult to pass him through waivers and put him on the practice squad. NFL teams can begin assembling their eight-player practice squads on Sunday."

What does him playing at USC have to do with anything?

  1. He played at a big-name college. If he went to a D2 school, no one would know of him.

  2. Some team would steal Booty because he went to USC.

Same thing with Cassell when the Pats signed him (even though he was just a backup).

  3. nothing......hes not NFL material, so hes gonna be on a practice squad

  4. It is right there in your quote. USC is a PROMINENT PROGRAM. He was the QB at a big name college. So they some team would have likely grabbed him off waivers. Once a player is put on waivers every other team has a chance to grab them, well now they see how he plays in the preseason as well.

  5. Well, because Booty went to USC, people know of him. Teams are watching him. If he gets waived, another team would jump all over him.

If he went to San Diego State, on the other hand, he wouldn't be as well known, and he would probably not get picked up through waivers.
