NFL set to investigate a second spitting claim
It's been barely a week since Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder accused Baltimore Ravens running back Le'Ron McClain of spitting on him when the two teams met on week 9, and now the NFL is looking into another spitting incident which took place
on Monday 15 November between the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles.
The most recent claim was made by Eagles centre Mike McGlynn who alleges that Redskins safety LaRon Landry spit at him twice during the game between the two teams. The Eagles are also accusing Landry of provoking a pre-game confrontation.
"Landry came and spit in my face, and that fired us all up," McGlynn told reporters after the game. "We were looking to really put the afterburners on them. It’s good to see that we came out and score 60 points, almost. We all want to play the game with
all the respect in the world, but when you’re disrespectful like that. I just think there has to be more respect for the game than that. It’s a terrible thing, and we said, 'Let’s just keep pouring it on them.'"
According to the Daily News, Landry has denied the allegations. "When would I ever be in touch with the centre?" he said. "I never blitz the 'A' gap. Still in all, when would I ever be in the 'A' gap? Extra points, I'm at the end. With that said,
that's your answer. I don't know if they're trying to elevate a problem with no reason. The centre, I keep my mouth shut about him."
The NFL will review video evidence from the game, but the league sided with McClain in the previous spitting scandal and decided not to hand out any fines.
The pre-game confrontation allegedly broke out when Landry alluded to Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson's recent concussion by saying, "I'm going to put you asleep again" as the teams were heading off the field after warm ups.
