NFL set to review fighting incident during Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions – NFL News
National Football League disciplinarians are looking into the fighting incident that took place yesterday in the fourth quarter of the game between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions which the Bears comprehensively won by 37-13
at the Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
The League will review every play where any infractions took place including events not penalized by the match officials and will deliver its verdicts by Friday. The NFL discipline committee will also look into other events during
the game which was a highly charged affair between the two National Football Conference North Division rivals.
The incident occurred early in the fourth quarter when Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford had his third pass intercepted by Tim Jennings. Stafford who cut a frustrated figure yesterday as he struggled to impose himself while also
playing through a finger injury lost his cool. With Jennings running forward after his interception Bears cornerback D.J Moore put in a legal block on Stafford who was trying to rectify his mistake, the quarterback grabbed the back of Moore’s helmet and flung
him to the ground. Moore stood up straight after and pounced on Stafford with players from both team getting involved in the mass brawl and officials plus coaches tried to separate the two sets of players.
"I saw Tim run by him, so I was going to let him go," Moore said on Monday. "Then he grabbed the bottom of the facemask and then he grabbed the back of my helmet and it seemed he was trying to -- I don't know what it was -- hurt
me.
"That's pretty much what it was. And then after I hit the ground, I got up, and I knew what I was going to do after I got up off the ground."
The officials ejected Moore for his retaliation on Stafford, however, did not take any action against the quarterback. NFL is expected to review all the video evidence and reach a conclusion with a fine for D.J Moore appearing
highly likely as his actions started the melee.
The Chicago Bears will be hoping that only a fine and nothing more will be handed down to D.J Moore as they await the NFL’s decision which will most likely impact who will take the field for the Bears when the San Diego Chargers
visit Chicago this Sunday.
