NFL suspends Lions’ Ndamukong Suh for two games, Suh decides to appeal the ban – NFL News
The National Football League has imposed a two-game ban without pay on Detroit Lions’ defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh for his undisciplined action of violently treating Green Bay Packers’ guard Evan Dietrich-Smith in the week 12
game of the season. On the other hand, Suh has decided to appeal the ban.
Suh aggressively tackled and kicked Evan in the third quarter of the game, and was ejected for the action.
Initially, he responded furiously, saying to the people who criticised him that he only cared about the opinions of his teammates and his true fans and coaches. However, he apologised later by admitting his mistake and said that
his reaction was unacceptable.
After the incident, it was widely speculated that the league would penalise Suh. In an attempt to reduce the damage, he reportedly called the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Sunday night to apologise in a hope that he would be
spared from the penalty.
However, none of it could save him, and the league imposed a two-game penalty on Suh. He will not be paid for those games as well that might cost him around $165,000.
“NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks notified Ndamukong Suh today that he has been suspended without pay for the Lions' next two games for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Lions-Packers game on Thanksgiving
Day," a statement by the NFL said.
On the other hand, Suh has decided to appeal the ban. An NFL spokesperson has said that the league would try to expedite his appeal so as to get a verdict before Sunday. If Suh wins the appeal, he can play the week 13 game against
New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Lions’ coach Jim Schwartz has said that during the last two days, he had conversations with Suh, whose priority is not to disturb or distract the team’s focus from the Sunday’s game. He also said that Suh is aware of
his responsibilities on the field.
"I think his No. 1 thing is, he didn't want to be a distraction for the team. He wanted the team to be able to focus on the Saints and he wants to be accountable for his actions," the coach said.
