NFL suspends Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright for taking drugs – NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright has been suspended for four weeks for taking Adderall.
Wright has violated National Football League’s (NFL) policy of performance enhancing drugs. He accepted that he took the drug in July without prescription.
In his statement released by the team, he apologised from his family and fans for this step.
He said:
"This is a result of taking Adderall at the end of July for health issues I was experiencing. I am extremely disappointed that the suspension was upheld at my appeal."
Buccaneers’ head coach Greg Schiano said:
"I'm disappointed he's going to be suspended for four weeks. I'm disappointed this has happened inside our organization."
This is the second Adderall taking incident in Buccaneers. Ex-Buccaneer Aqib Talib also violated the league’s policy at the beginning of this season and got suspended on October 13.
Later, he was traded to New England Patriots while serving his four-week suspension.
Wright was injured during Week 11 overtime win against Carolina Panthers. While recovering from Achilles tendon injury, he missed last game against Atlanta Falcons.
He has 34 tackles, an interception returned for a touchdown, and a fumble recovery to his name. He will return in Week 17 game against Falcons.
Wright was replaced by Leonard Johnson, who joined the team as an undrafted free agent this year. Other players who are expected to join the roster in absence of Wright are E.J. Biggers, LeQuan Lewis and Danny Gorrer.
Wright signed a five-year contract on March 14, 2012 with Buccaneers. He was drafted in second round of the 2007 NFL draft by Cleveland Browns.
In the 2011 season, he was signed by Detroit Lions. He performed really well and had 74 tackles and four interceptions.
The team is going to miss the veteran in next game against Denver Broncos on December 2 because Broncos are playing really well, and their quarterback Peyton Manning’s performance has been amazing throughout this season.
To stop Manning from scoring, a good defence line is important. Absence of an experienced player will affect Buccaneers game.
Buccaneers have won six and lost five games this season, they are ranked 2nd in National Football Conference (NFC) South.
