NFL to add regional showcasing events to main combine in Indianapolis – NFL News
National Football League (NFL) office said it has decided to add its annual regional combines, the week-long events to showcase college football players’ talent and skills, to its main combine that is held in Indianapolis by end
of February every year.
The programme, which is commonly known as NFL Scouting Combine or the National Invitational Camp is organized by the NFL at eight cities for a week respectively, starting from January 28 through March 17 every year.
The event features performances by college players proving their mental and physical fitness and their football talent and skills in front of NFL general managers, personnel directors, owners, coaches and scouts.
The programme has grown in its significance and scope over past few years given the reason that it enables general managers, personnel directors and coaches to evaluate their potential draft picks for their teams for next season.
It helps personnel directors and coaches to make their mind and decision about recruitment of players to their sides.
The regional combines are held in Los Angeles, Tampa, Houston, New York, Baltimore, Cleveland, Chicago and Atlanta.
The players who participate in the regional combines are then likely to be invited to attend a super-regional event. The super-regional combine is held at Ford Field in Detroit on March 30 and 31 every year.
The main combine is then held at Lucas Oil Stadium, which formerly was known as RCA Dome, in Indianapolis. The NFL said that it will add its regional combines to its main event.
"The NFL regional combines programme provides players who may not have had the chance before the opportunity to work out for NFL personnel executives," said NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson. "It
allows all 32 clubs a chance to further evaluate future prospects."
