NFL to investigate defensive end Mario Williams’ injury and Buffalo Bills injury report – NFL News
The National Football League (NFL) has taken notice of the issue of defensive end Mario Williams’ wrist injury. Williams has repeatedly said that he has an injury, while his team Buffalo Bills have never mentioned his name on injury report this season.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello made the announcement about the inquiry on Sunday, October 07, 2012. In his comments, Aiello said:
"The club says he is not injured. We will follow up this week to obtain a formal explanation."
Williams has been complaining about having pain in his left wrist. Only last week, on Wednesday, October 03, he revealed that his wrist had got injured during the offseason. Williams said:
“It’s just a little deal going on, but we’ve already mentioned that before. It’s just lingering a little longer than I expected and I just (need to) get back out there and try to deal with it and play better with it.”
Bills have always given the stance that Williams has never been injured and has taken part in every practice session without missing playing time.
As per the NFL rules:
"Players with significant or noteworthy injuries must be listed on the report, even if the player takes all the reps in practice, and even if the team is certain that he will play in the upcoming game.”
Williams first revealed his injury after the season opener in which Bills lost 48-24 against New York Jets. This controversy has created a buzz among administration of various teams.
Williams is the most expensive defensive player in the history of the league after getting a $100 million contract out of which $50 million is totally guaranteed.
Williams played in Bills’ Week 5 game which they miserably lost by 45-3 against San Francisco 49ers.
Bills defence has been lacklustre to say the least during their last two games as they have given away 97 points.
The defensive end has only got 1.5 sacks this season along with 11 tackles. He has not been impressive in Bills jersey that has led to the speculation that Bills might be trying to hide his injury concerns. The inquiry will clear out all the clouds.
