NFL weighs to ban Steelers’ James Harrison over McCoy hit – NFL News
Reports have emerged indicating that National Football (NFL) office was weighing to punish the Steelers linebacker over the hit to Cleveland Browns' Colt McCoy who suffered a head injury.
Harrison was involved in a helmet-to-helmet hit with McCoy resulting in a head injury to the player in Steelers game against the Browns on Thursday night, into NFL Week 14.
If Harrison is banned, he will become first player to be punished under the enhanced measures by NFL office to ensure players safety. NFL latest safety steps include posting of an observer at Press Box to monitor concussion during
each game.
"Our staff is going to be looking at that play along with every other play that happens this weekend, and they'll make their decisions," Goodell said.
Harrison had been fined $125,000 over his involvement in illegal hits during NFL past season. He might be receiving heavy fine over his latest hit, particularly if he is not banned from the game.
Despite that James Harrison has come under fire over the hit he maintained his innocence.
"From what I understand, once the quarterback leaves the pocket, he's considered a runner," Harrison said. "All the defenseless (ness) and liberties that a quarterback has in the pocket are gone and you can tackle him just as he's
a running back. The hit wasn't late, so I really don't understand why it was called."
Browns Colt McCoy suffered concussion in the match and is being very much ruled out for rest of the current regular season of NFL premier football league.
Unlucky for the player the Browns added to worsen his situation by allowing him to return and play the game. Their handling of his injury has led to a controversy and criticism against the Browns.
An initial inquiry by the NFL and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) offices has pointed out at a system failure on the Browns in handling of McCoy affairs.
The inquiry continues while Browns coach and other staff in the meantime have defended their decision of allowing McCoy to return to field and resume his play. They maintained that the player looked ok, and that this was the reason
they allowed him to be back to play.
