NHH attempting to revive hockey in Canterbury after devastating earthquake

The North Harbour Hockey (NHH) is attempting to revive the game of hockey in Canterbury, where sports activities were halted after the September earthquake. Many of the hockey fields and stadiums were ruined in the natural disaster.
The North Harbour Hockey (NHH) is organizing a celebrity hockey match of 2010 on December 10th at North Harbour Hockey Stadium in a bid to reinstate the sports activities in the region. Many of the top hockey players of New Zealand will take part
in the match with an aim to reinstate the sport in Canterbury.
Most of the hockey stadiums and fields were ruined in the September earthquake and sports activities were halted in the region.
Many of the national hockey team’s players including vice-captain of silver-medallist squad in the Commonwealth Games, Dean Couzins, Andy Haywood, Nick Haig, Stacey Michelsen, Charlotte Harrison, Samantha Harrison, Natasha Fitz Simons and Steve Edwards will
take part in the match.
Among the other expected celebrities are: Silver Ferns, Chantal Brunner (long jumper), 2010 Commonwealth Games medallists Ritchie Patterson (Weightlifting), Hayley Palmer, Emma Twigg, Darcy Waldegrave (Sports host), Rebecca Scown, Eric Murray (Rowers), Hamish
Bond, Marnie McGuire (Golf), Hollie Smithv (Singer), Kevin Locke, Miles Davisz (Radio host) and Wendy Meyer (Host).
Vice- Captain of New Zealand Hockey team, Dean Couzins talking to the media said, “It’s a great cause, and will be a fantastic event to be involved in. I have spent many of my hockey days at Canterbury Hockey and it has been a huge set-back for the growth
of hockey in the region, but it’s great to get support from another association.”
It is pertinent to mention here that all the funding and donations of the celebrity match will be given to Canterbury Hockey to promote the game in the area.
Chief Executive Officer North Harbour Hockey (NHH), Kris Mathiesen said, “It is a great initiative to promote game the facilities in the North Shore precinct, particularly to the wider community.”
Kris Mathiesen further said that it would be a great reward for North Harbour Hockey (NHH) to organise an event for the top sports and media representatives, which will really push up the sport in Canterbury.
It will be a great effort by the North Harbour Hockey in the wake of promotion of the game in the region where sport was knackered due to natural disaster.
