NHL – Boston Bruins win 5-2 against the New York Islanders
The first game of Thursday and the 411th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New York Islanders up against the Boston Bruins. The Boston Bruins were the favourites and were expected to win by quite a margin which certainly proved
to be case. There were around 17,000 fans that came to witness the match at the TD Garden, Boston. The Islanders played the 26th game of the season while the Boston Bruins played the 27th game of their campaign.
The away side started the period strongly as they didn’t allow the home team any space and counterattacked proficiently . The home team had absolutely no answer to the strong offence of the away side, however, after a couple of minutes the Boston Bruins
changed their strategy and came up with an attacking mentality.
The home team managed to come up with some brilliant pieces of play during which they scored in the 14th minute to take the first lead of the match. The goal was scored by Milan Lucic who has been in superb form recently.
The period saw the Boston Bruins making a few more goal attempts but they couldn’t convert them into goals and the home team led 1-0 going into the break. During the course of the period, the New York Islanders made 7 goal attempts while the Boston Bruins
made 16 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the New York Islanders totally dominate the first half of the period. The away team was able to dominate not only in defence but the offence got past the opposing defence easily as well. The away side managed to level the scores
with a goal in the 4th minute. The goal was scored by Frans Nielson from a brilliant backhand shot.
However, after the first ten minutes of the period it was the home team who dominated the play. The Bruins were determined to regain the lead and were eventually successful, scoring in the 15th minute. The goal was scored by Brad Marchand from another cracking
backhand shot.
The final period saw both teams coming up with a close and entertaining battle. Boston was very strong on the offence at the start and they capitalized from it by scoring in the 15th minute. The goal was scored by Michael Ryder through a simple
tip in shot.
Though the New York Islanders cut the lead to just 1 goal with a goal from Rob Schremp, the Boston Bruins scored once again in the 19th minute. The goal was scored by Milan Lucic who bagged his second goal for the night.
Boston Bruins sealed the match with one final goal in the 20th minute. The goal was scored by Patrice Bergeron from a well placed flick shot.
During the course of the period the New York Islanders made 11 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made 12 goal attempts as they won the match 5-2.
