NHL: Colorado Avalanche win 2-1 against Dallas Stars
The 59th game of NHL Pre-season witnessed Dallas Stars up against Colorado Avalanche. This was Dallas Stars’ 4th Pre-season game while Colorado Avalanche were playing their 5th
one.
Colorado Avalanche dominated the match right from the start as expected and came up with some early goal attempts. Through a good display of shooting, passing as well as playmaking, they managed to break past Dallas Stars’ defense quite often. But still
with no goal attempt being successful, Colorado Avalanche changed their game plan and decided to wait for the right time or a fast break.
They immediately got an opportunity as Stars lost possession in their half. This was grabbed by Avalanche’s centre, Paul Stastny. The goal came in the twelfth minute after which Stars decided to adopt a more attacking approach. Although, they had managed
to pile up some goal attempts but to their disappointment, either these went wide or were stopped by opponent’s goal keeper. At the period’s end, Stars and Avalanche both managed to come up with 9 goal attempts but only one attempt of Avalanche was successful.
Before second period began, the fans present at the Pepsi Centre, home of Colorado Avalanche backed their home team to score more. As soon as the period began, Colorado’s center, Paul Stastny came up with a bullet strike that missed the goal by an inch.
During the course of the period, Avalanche not only dominated the possession but also excelled in passing and shooting. At second period’s middle part, Stars started to come up with shots of their own but still none of them were able to find the back of the
net.
Finally, Avalanche’s hard work paid off once again after the 10th minute of second period as they scored another goal from a splendid 14 feet tip in by Paul Stastny. The period ended at 2-0 in favor of home team. Stars managed just 5 shots while
Avalanche had 12. Meanwhile, Avalanche approached the third period in somewhat relaxed manner. From deep in the opposition’s half, they scrambled back in defense to make sure that the two goals lead wasn’t lost. Coupled with this was the splendid goal-keeping
display by Avalanche’s goalie. He dived all round the goal, making sure that he blocked each shot aimed at the goal.
Stars managed to score a consolation goal in the sixteenth minute. It came from Neal’s 8 feet backhand shot that flew past the goalie. For the first time in the match, he had no chance of stopping it. The match ended with 2-1 in favor of Colorado Avalanche
while the third period saw 7 shots each from both teams.
