Minnesota Wild pull off 5-3 comeback win against the San Jose Sharks
The Minnesota Wild pulled off a remarkable 5-3 comeback win over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night. Brent Burns scored the winner, while Kyle Brodziak also netted two goals in the game.
The first period started off slowly for both sides, as they played cautiously and waited for chances to come their way. As the period progressed both teams were able to create some decent scoring chances, however their finishing let them down. The home side
then struck first blood through Kyle Brodziak, who opened the scoring in the eighth minute from a well placed flick shot. That sparked the visiting Sharks into action and they went in search of an equaliser. They didn’t have to wait too long though, and drew
level through Joe Thornton’s goal in the 12th minute. The period ended with scores level at 1-1. The Sharks made nine goal attempts during the period, while the Minnesota Wild had five goal attempts.
The second period saw the teams come out with a positive mentality. That made for quite an open game throughout the 20 minutes. The first goal of the period was scored by the San Jose Sharks Devin Setoguchi in the third minute to give his team the lead.
The Wild also attacked and worked hard in the middle which saw them create some brilliant pieces of play. The hosts’ persistence paid off as they successfully leveled the scores with Mikko Koivu’s goal in the 13th minute.
Minnesota was definitely the stronger of the two teams, but another Sharks goal by Patrick Marleau in the 16th minute silenced the home crowd. The period saw the teams making more goal attempts without any success. At the end of 20 minutes play San Jose
Sharks were leading 3-2. San Jose made 11 goal attempts, while the Minnesota Wild made 10 goal attempts.
Though the final period saw the away side making more goal attempts, it was Minnesota who managed to turn things around. The Minnesota Wild scored through Chuck Kobasew in the sixth minute to level the scores. A few minutes later the Wild caught the Sharks
on a counter attack and scored through Brent Burns to take the lead.
The home team sealed the match with a goal in the 11th minute from Kyle Brodziak, who bagged his second for the night, and was named the star selection of the match as Minnesota Wild won the match 5-3.
