NHL: Expectations are high for Steven Stamkos
Time is slowly passing by and nearing a stage when the regular season of National Hockey League will be in full swing. Although activity is always going on and every now and then there is some new player who catches people’s attention and climbs up the stairs of fame. All these competitions and challenges help the talented players make a difference and add some value to their personalities.
Anybody who follows the sport of ice hockey is bound to be familiar with the names, Alexander Overchkin and Sidney Crosby. They are called the NHL’s poster boys. These two players and some others in the top spots get enough media coverage and stay in the news all the time but there are plenty of players who do not get enough credit because of media-hyped players.
One such talented player, who is gifted in the sport of hockey and has the potential to mark his presence in the toughest competitions, has to be Canadian Steven Stamkos. He is a professional ice hockey player who has been playing for Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL since 2008. Stamkos is among the youngest players of NHL who has scored 51 goals and is tied for the most goals with Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is the next most suitable player to lead his team in the coming years with his superb set of skills.
He remained very successful in the last season and reached the fifth position in the point’s bracket with a total of 95 remarkable points. He has been playing for Tampa Bay Lightning for only two seasons under the NHL tag and in this short period of time he has proved his extra-ordinary skills in the game of hockey.
Since he belonged to Unionville, Ontario, he made his first appearance in the junior hockey team Markham Waxers. On account of his excellent performance, he was drafted in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), which finally paved his way to the ultimate platform of the National Hockey League.
Stamkos participated in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and as a result of a brilliant play he was picked up by the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was a big day for Stamkos and a right decision for the team. He delivered his promise in a great way and played his part in the overall betterment of the Tampa Bay lightning.
Stamkos will be strongly considered among the key players in the coming playoffs to enter into the third season of NHL. He has shown clear signs of replacing Vincent Lecavalier, the current Captain of Tampa Bay Lightning. Considering his good game and temperament, Stamkos is the most deserving player to lead the team.
Anyhow, all these assumptions and expectations will be put to test in the playoffs starting in September. Since Stamkos has already been in a tie with Sidney Crosby, it will be exciting to watch them compete against each other. The young Stamkos has a big competition ahead of him.
While the world is expecting so much from Stamkos, he has to consider the duty and responsibility to his game. He has achieved high status in the previous years. He helped the Canada junior hockey team win the gold medal in the World Junior Hockey Championship. His performances for the Tampa Bay Lightning have been awesome. In the 2009 World Hockey Championship he topped the Canadian WC Roster.
Steven Stamkos is surely the next big thing in NHL.
