Michel Therrien. This friggin guy has been whining more than his captain about the referees not calling penalties on Detroit. Well, you're welcome Mr. Therrien. Are you satisfied?

What a way to ruin a great game. The 2-3 prior penalties (just before overtime were bad enough...but calling that in the 3rd OT! Whatever!

So, I don't want to cry too much but, question...does this pattern continue in game 6, or have the refs given him enough to shut up?

  1. The two goalie interferences were BS; but by the time Jiri high sticked, the game could have been over.  What else can you expect from Dan O'Halloran?!!

  2. pens have the rep about whinnig, they whin, thug and mug, whatever it takes..but in this cup run there seems to be a growing up feel off that team, still squeaky wheel get the grease...there jus seem to be alessoning of whinnig out of some players..there was one goalie better by far who played last night and if that continues then we have a couple more games to enjoy...

  3. The high-sticking on Hudler was a good call but those BS calls on Zetterberg in the 1st OT and Cleary in the 2nd have got to go.  And I personally believe those two calls hurt the wings mentally.  Even though they successfully killed them off, those calls got into their psyche.

  4. If this $hit continues...I'm done watching hockey.  It's been going on for about five years now and the pattern contiues.  Has anyone else notices how many expantion teams, or teams that have been moved have won?

  5. Well....It didn't ruin a great game.Of course,I'm pulling for the Wings but Fleury played outstanding in the nets and I could have sworn I saw the Pens trainer giving Malkin mouth to  mouth after every shift. He was a tired boy by the time the 3rd OT rolled around.Listen in no way am I a Therrien fan but he did get the calls he wanted last night so he did his job.I think the Wings will have 5 more PPs then the Pens in game 6 though.

  6. What a nailbiter!  For a golden few hours I thought we might get tickets, then the guy got wise and sold them on ebay.  I'd have only needed the edge of a seat!

Anyhow, unfortunately Hudler's penalty was the right call, and was a bit of a killer, regardless of any other cheesy penalties.  I really didn't like the goalie interference call on Cleary.

I have no great respect for Therrien - he HAS spoiled it, notably for his own players.  I guess I got used to hockey people being humble and sporting, crediting everyone before themselves.  Whining to the press about the officials just makes him look childish - there are surely proper channels for lodging legitimate complaints, that we don't have to endure listening to.

Excellent game from the Pens - they seem to have got the hang of playing against us now, so I'm looking forward to yet more thrilling stuff in the next game (or two, heaven forbid!).

    Go Wings.

  7. He's doing his job, if you don't like it ignore it.  By doing this, he puts his team at a chance to get more powerplays by stressing how much obstruction there is and making a scene.

You're telling me that a high sticking that made him bleed shouldn't have been called?  If that didn't happen Michael would of gone crazy and the refs would be in trouble.  Of course, there's a lot of penalities that will be not called because refs try not to decide games in OT, but when you lose control of your stick, then you have to call it.  Since he was bleeding, it's automatically a 4 minute minor.  Anyway, didn't take long for Pit to score on it. Thank god.

  8. Anytime a team is down 3-1 in a series and has been pretty much outplayed in every facet of the game it seems like they get some calls to try to keep them alive. I'm not saying the Penguins didn't deserve to win, Fleury stood on his head! But I've noticed in most sports, it feels like the refs (unknowingly or not) try to give the "underdog" a chance to stay in it. That being said, the Penguins still had to capitalize, and after the 5 v. 3 powerplay in game 4, scoring in OT was hardly a "gimme". The Red Wings outshot the Pen's 2-1, Fleury stole this game, pure and simple.

  9. yeah calling a penalty for drawing blood with your stick, what were the refs thinking?????????

  10. Had it been merely highsticking, they probably would not have called it, but when you draw blood, they have to... It's an automatic call... even in Playoff OT...

  11. I agree with "you" above--it's pretty standard that a high stick drawing blood gets a penalty.  The most bizarre call of the night in my mind was the second goalie interference call against the Wings in OT.  There was no direct effect on the score, but it did have me questioning if the ref was watching the same game I was; I don't see how anybody could have called that goalie interference.  But I suppose such is the game of hockey.

At any rate, it was a great game & I'm looking forward to the Wings winning the Cup in Pittsburgh!

  12. He doesn't whine if it is true. The wings get way too many uncalled plays and someone has to mention it other than Therrien and Crosby. It doesn't mean they whine.

  13. I should hope so.

Good game........I look forward to the next one.

  14. we can't change the refs. i like an open hockey game (meaning not as many whistles). i prefer a non-call to a call. hudler DID draw blood. a player IS responsible for where his stick is.

on the other hand, it's interesting at how "clumsy" MAF can be when wings skaters are near him. shame on those mean wingies that try to "get him". and osgood is a diver. goalies are divers.

pitt showed a LOT of heart. give them credit. they hung in there. the wings played a GREAT game. MAF had a few GREAT saves, and lots of good ones (great position). this reminded me of game 5 of last year's series against the ducks. we've gotta play 60 minutes. not 59.

you don't win by shot total. we can't EXPECT to win by one goal. we had many opportunities and didn't capitalize. the longer you go down that road, the more that you leave the result of the game up to a bounce or faceoff or penalty.

hudler isn't conscious about his stick, and then a PP goal. i'm not saying you're crazy. it would've been nice to see the refs use the same measuring stick for making calls, but i'm not faulting them.

    we missed our chances.

GREAT GAME PENS!! a LOT of heart! what a series. looking forward to game 6!
