NHL Latest- A late comeback a little too late for St. Louis Blues as Toronto Maple Leafs win 6-5 after shootout

The second game of Thursday and 598th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted at the Air Canada Center. The match saw the home team, Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the St. Louis Blues in front of around 20,000 fans. This was
the 39th game of the season for both sides which saw St. Louis Blues scoring thrice in the final period and taking the match into shootout from where Toronto Maple Leafs emerged as 6-5 winners of the match with their centre Tyler Bozak named the
star selection.
Toronto Maples Leafs immediately scored after the start of the match. The goal was scored by a spectacular flick shot by Colby Armstrong in the 15th second after the start.
St. Louis Blues also showed what they were made off attacking and defending pretty well. They started to come across chances too and managed to score through Alexander Steen in the 4th minute to level the scores.  
The match turned into an offensive battle which resulted in shot flying on goal from everywhere on the pitch. Resultantly, a goal was scored in faovur of St. Louis Blues scored by David Backes from a quick fired shot.
Both teams continued to exchange shots but none of them found the back of the net as they period ended with St. Louis Blues leading 2-1. During the period, St. Louis Blues made 10 goal attempts while Toronto Maple Leafs made 13 goal attempts.
Both teams continued to attack and come across scoring chances in the second period but Toronto Maple Leafs proved to be more productive of the two teams.
Toronto scored the equalizer through Mikhail Grabovski in the 9th minute. Toronto Maple Leafs dominating continued as they scored once again in the next minute to take the lead with the goal scored by Kris Versteeg.
Phil Kessel’s flick shot in the 13th put the Toronto Maple Leafs as they scored. After this the Toronto Maple Leafs took the foot off the gas. St. Louis Blues started to come across scoring chances but they weren’t able to convert any of them
into goals as they period ended with St. Louis Blues leading 4-2.
After a brilliant start to the final period that saw Toronto Maple Leafs taking the score to 5-2 as they scored through Phil Kessel it looked as if they won the match.
St. Louis Blues had other things in mind and all they knew was the word “attack”. They did just that scoring two goals in succession to cut the lead to just one goal. The first goal was scored by Brad Winchester in the 7th minute while the second
was score by Eric Brewer from a long range shot in the next minute.
With the hard work and determination, St. Louis levelled the scored in the 14th minute through Matt D'Agostini’s backhand shot. There were a few more chances for both sides but no further goals were scored and the score was 5-5 at the end of regulation
time.
The match went into overtime where no goals were scored by Toronto Maple Leafs scored through Tyler Bozak in the shootout and won the match 6-5.
