NHL Latest – A much expected result as Philadelphia Flyers win 4-2 against the struggling New Jersey Devils
The last positioned team in the NHL league currently, New Jersey Devils hosted Philadelphia Flyers this Thursday. The match was predicted to be won by the Flyers and this certainly what happened. This was the 599th game of the season for both
sides and the 40th of the season for both sides. The match was won by Flyers after they were trailing heading into the second period. Danny Briere was named the star selection of the match with his two goals as Flyers won the match 4-2.
A slow start to the match was observed by both the teams as they fired shots on goal with attacks being half hearted as they didn’t want the other team to score. The early shots came from the Philadelphia Flyers. Combing well they managed to get past the
opposing team’s defence regularly. They had plenty of chances to score but unfortunately couldn’t.
However, it was the New Jersey Devils who scored the first goal of the match through Dainius Zubrus’s tip in shot. Both teams had several more chances to score both no further goals were scored as the period ended with New Jersey Devils leading 1-0.
Philadelphia Flyers dominated much of the second period firing shots from all around the pitch and displaying some excellent passing.
The accuracy in passing and strength in attacks resulted in the Philadelphia Flyers scoring in the 16th minute through Scott Hartnett’s backhand shot to level the scores. Philadelphia Flyers continued to attack but the Devils caught them on a
counter attack in the 18th minute and took the lead once again.
The goal was scored by David Clarkson from a decent strike. Philadelphia Flyers being the stronger of the two sides managed to score through Scott Harnett once again in the 19th minute to regain the lead.
During the period, Flyers made 7 goal attempts while Devils made just 2 goal attempts and the scores were level on 2-2.
Philadelphia Flyers made a great start to the final period attacking right from the start. This resulted in the Flyers scoring through Danny Briere to take the lead for the first time in the match.
Philadelphia Flyers was content on not losing the lead therefore they continued to search another goal and meanwhile maintained a tight defence.
The hard work and determination paid off as they doubled the lead with a goal through Danny Briere once again in the 12th minute. The defence did rest of the job and the match ended with Philadelphia Flyers winning the match 4-2.
