NHL Latest – Atlanta Thrashers win 6-3 against the Toronto Maple Leafs
The 489th game of the regular season was played at the Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, this Monday. The match saw the home team play host to the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers were in superb form as they won their match on
Saturday 7-1. This was the 35th game of the season for the Atlanta Thrashers while the Toronto Maple Leafs played their 33rd game.
The away side taking advantage of the slow start of the home team attacked right from the beginning. The Thrashers came across scoring opportunities from the very first minute of the period. This was the reason why they successfully scored in the 3rd
minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Freddy Modin from a simple tip in shot.
With the score 1-0 in Atlanta’s favour, the home team decided to attack so as to level the scores as soon as possible. In doing so the home team put all of their men into the attack which left an open space at the heart of the Toronto Maple Leafs defence.
Thrashers again capitalized from this as they scored once again in the 4th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Tobias Enstrom from a powerful strike. The period and the match ended with the Atlanta Thrashers leading 2-0. During
the period the Thrashers made 8 shots on the goal while the Toronto Maple Leafs made 13 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw Toronto making a decent start as they fired shots on the opposing goal frequently. The home team started to get closer to the goal with every attempt when finally they scored in the 15th minute to cut the lead to
one goal. The goal was scored by John Mitchell.
Atlanta Thrashers was content on regaining the lead once again and pressed on which resulted in them restoring the 2 goal advantage. The goal was scored by Freddy Modin once again in the 20th minute. The period ended with the Thrashers leading
3-1 as they made 8 goal attempts in the period while the Toronto Maple Leafs made 11 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of the match were very tough and resulted in an interesting battle. Atlanta Thrashers bagged the first goal of the period in the 4th minute which was scored by Anthony Stewart. A minute later, Atlanta scored once again through
Tobias Enstrom which took the score to 5-1.
Toronto came up with some good plays after the goal but it was not until the 13th minute that Toronto Maple Leafs finally scored. The goal was scored by Mikhail Grabovski. Toronto scored once again in the 14th minute to keep hopes of
a comeback alive. The goal was scored by Nikolai Kulemin.
The score at the time was 5-3 but the Thrashers sealed the win scoring in the 19th minute to win the match 6-3. The goal was scored by Andrew Ladd from a decent strike as the Atlanta Thrashers came up with another impressive win.
