NHL Latest – Colorado Avalanche win 6-5 against the Ottawa Senators in a very tight encounter after overtime

The final game of Friday saw the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Ottawa Senators. This was the 472nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which was played at the Pepsi Centre in front of around 15,000 fans.
The match was thought to be an easy walkover by the Ottawa Senators but there was a twist in the tale. The Avalanche used the home advantage to the fullest to come up with a very strong performance to clinch the match 6-5 in overtime.
The side made a great start to match as they scored in the third minute with their first attack to stun the home team and the fans. The goal was scored by Erik Karlsson from a brilliant quick fired shot that went flying into the back of the net.
Colorado Avalanche also started to come up with attacks with the passage of time. They managed to score in the fourth minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by TJ Galiardi from a simple tip in shot. The Senators are well known for the very strong
attacking unit they possess and they showed it as they scored in the eighth minute to take the lead again.
The period ended with the Senators leading 2-1 as they made 7 goal attempts while the Colorado Avalanche made 5 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Colorado start in decent manner as they searched the equaliser. The home team successfully levelled the score in the 11th minute. Ottawa Senators were content on regaining the lead once again and they scored in the 12th
minute to regain the lead. The goal was scored by Matt Carkner from a long range powerful shot.
Colorado had the confidence and momentum with the support of thousands of fans and scored once again to level the match once again as the period ended. The goal was scored by Matt Dunchene from a decent flick shot in the 17th minute. The period
ended with the scores level on 3-3.
The final period was as entertaining as the first two periods. The home side took the lead as they scored in the third minute through Kevin Porter. From then onward for some time, it was the Ottawa Senators who dominated and controlled the pace of the game.
They scored in the fifth minute to level the scores through Jason Spezza and once again in the 12th minute to get back into the lead. This time the goal scorer was Daniel Alfredsson, Captain of the Senators.
The final few minutes were dominated by the home side and they scored through Ryan O’Reilly to level the scores once again. The period ended with the scores level on 5-5. The match went into overtime as a result.
During the overtime, Matt Dunchene scored in the third minute to win the match 6-5 for his side.
