Dallas Stars beat
Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 after shootout
The city of Dallas hosted the 422nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match saw the home team up against the Carolina Hurricanes. This was one match that could have gone in any teams favour. This certainly
proved to be the case as the match was decided in the shootout. This was the 27th game of the season for the Hurricanes while the Dallas Stars played their 28th. Around 13,000 fans came to watch the match at the American Airlines Arena.
The Carolina Hurricanes was the stronger of the two teams at the start of the match as they came up with a very strong offence and defence. The away side didn’t give the home team any space and time to work. This resulted in the
Dallas Stars being restricted to their own half of the rink.
However, with the passage of time, the home team’s confidence got a boost and with the added determination to take the lead, they scored. The goal was scored by James Neal from a spectacular flick shot in the 10th minute.
There was nothing much else to talk about in the period as the Dallas Stars lead 1-0 into the break. During the course of the period both the team made 5 goal attempts each.
The 2nd period started on a high by the Dallas Stars but they didn’t convert any of the chances into goals. As a result the home team was frustrated and left open spaces at the back pushing all of their men forward in
attacks.
The away team successfully scored in the 10th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Jiri Tlusty from a brilliant flick shot. The Carolina Hurricanes came up with a strong offence right till the end of the
period but couldn’t score any further goals.
The period ended with the scores level at 1-1 with the Carolina Hurricanes making 9 goal attempts while the Dallas Stars made 11.
The final period of the match didn’t see any goals with occasional shots from both teams. During the course of the final period, Carolina made 5 goal attempts while the Dallas Stars made 7. The regulation time ended with the scores
still level at 1-1 but no goals were scored during the overtime.
However, the Dallas Stars managed to win the match 2-1 with a goal from Brad Richards in shootout.
