Detroit Red Wings win 4-2 against the Montreal Canadiens
The first game of Friday was played at the in Detroit. The match saw the home team, the Detroit Red Wings play host to the Montreal Canadiens in front of 20,000 fans. The match was played at the Joe Louis Arena. The Detroit Red
Wings started as the match favourites and they certainly lived up to expectations to win the match. This was the 419th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series with the Detroit Red Wings playing the 27th game of the season while
the Montreal Canadiens played the 29th game of the campaign so far.
The away side made a strong start to the match as they displayed some excellent passing and shooting abilities. They dominated the early part of the period with the smoothness in their play. They came close to scoring on several
occasions only to be denied by the goalkeeper.
The away side’s determination and hard work saw them scoring in the 12th minute to take the lead of the match. The goal was scored by Travis Moen from a brilliant flick shot. The home team responded to this with strong
attacks but they couldn’t find the back of the net. The period saw the home team displaying decent passing and shooting.
However, it was not until the 20th minute that the Detroit Red Wings scored to equalize. The goal was scored by Nicklas Lidstrom from a powerful shot that caught the goalkeeper off-guard.
The home team made a few more goal attempts but they failed to score. The period ended with the score level at 1-1. During the course of the period, the Montreal Canadiens made 7 goal attempts while the Detroit Red Wings made 18.
The 2nd period was dominated by the home side. They took the lead with a goal in the 4th minute. The goal was scored by Niklas Kronwall. The Montreal Canadiens came up with attacks as well and came close to
scoring in the early stages of the match. The away side’s attacks saw all their men being involved up front.
The home team took advantage of this and scored once again from a counter attack. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from a brilliant backhand shot.
The period ended with the Montreal Canadiens making a few more goal attempts at the end but without much success. The score at the end was 3-1 in favour of the Detroit Red Wings.
The final was similar in the game play and goal scoring to the first period. The away side, the Montreal Canadiens bagged the first goal of the period. The goal was scored by Benoit Pouliot from a powerful shot that went flying
into the net.
The home side managed to respond late in the final minute of the period. The goal was scored by Patrick Eaves from a good shot. The period and the match ended with the Detroit Red Wings winning 4-2.
