Minnesota Wild playing host to the Calgary Flames was the final game of Monday that was played at the Xcel Energy Centre.
This was the 494th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series that went as expected. This was the 34th game of the season for the Calgary Flames while the Minnesota Wild played the 32nd game of the season. After very
close first two periods, the final period saw the Minnesota Wild shifting gears to score thrice to win the match 4-1.
Both teams exploded right from the start of the match. They concentrated on getting players into open positions rather than losing possession. This resulted in the match turning into a technical battle.
The Minnesota Wild got stronger into the middle part of the period and successfully scored in the 10th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Kyle Brodziak from a decent long-range shot. Both teams continued to attack right till the end
of the period without much success. Minnesota Wild led 1-0 going into the break as they made 10 goal attempts while the Calgary Flames made 12 goal attempts.
The 2nd period was another 20 minutes of play that saw the teams’ battling out hard to score but the productivity was very less. Infact, only one goal was scored in the 2nd period.
The goal was scored in favour of the away side in the fourth minute that levelled the scores. The goal was scored by Olli Jokinen from a well-placed flick shot. During the course of the period, both teams had several chances to score but they failed and
the score at the end of the 2nd period was level on 1-1. During the period, the Calgary Flames made 13 goal attempts while the Minnesota Wild made 3 goal attempts.
Minnesota Wild was cheered onto the pitch by the fans and it gave them confidence which saw them scoring immediately to take the lead in the seventh minute. The goal was scored by Martin Havlat through a brilliant backhand shot.
Minnesota Wild pressed on and scored once again in the 10th minute to take the score to 3-1. The goal scorer was John Madden who scored through a long-range shot. Calgary Flames also had their chances to score in the period but they failed to
convert any of them into goals.
However, Minnesota Wild scored in the 19th minute to seal the match. The goal was scored by Cal Clutterbuck from a good shot as Minnesota won the match 4-1.
