NHL Latest: Nashville Predators win 3-1 against the New Jersey Devils

The Nashville Predators were up against the New Jersey Devils this Friday in the 469th game of the 2010 NHL Compuware Series.
The match was played at the Prudential Centre, home of the Devils. The match was expected to be one sided with the New Jersey Devils bagging good performances recently. However, this was not the case as the away side came up with a dominating display of
ice hockey to win the match 3-1. This was the 31st game of the campaign for both the sides with around 14,000 fans coming to witness the game.
The match was started cautiously by both the sides as they were reluctant to attack and waited for opportunities to come their way. In doing so, both teams maintained a very tight and tough defence that did not allow players to get past it.
This resulted in very little scoring chances and goal attempts during the course of the period. The New Jersey Devils were the first to make a goal attempts from long range. The shot was easily stopped by the goal keeper. However, it was the Nashville Predators
who bagged the first goal of the match. The goal was scored by Steve Sullivan from a quick fired shot in the final minute of the first period.
The period ended with the Predators leading 1-0 as they made 5 goal attempts compared to the 4 of the New Jersey Devils.
The early few minutes of the second period belonged to the Devils but eventually the away side was successful in taking control of the match. They not only controlled the pace of the match but also came close to scoring on several occasions.
The Nashville Predators scored in the fifth minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Martin Erat from a well placed flick shot. Though there were more than a dozen chances for the away side to further strengthen the lead but they failed to.
The away side ended with period on a high leading 2-0 into the break. During the course of the period, the Predators made 15 goal attempts while the Devils managed to make only 5 goal attempts.
The final period was started on a high by the Predators as expected. They managed to score once again in the fifth minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was scored by Martin Erat who bagged his second for the night.
New Jersey Devils also scored in the eighth minute but it proved to be no more than consolation. The goal was scored by Mattias Tedenby from a powerful strike. The match ended with the Nashville Predators winning the match 3-1.
The final 20 minutes of the match saw the Predators making 3 goal attempts while the New Jersey Devils made 7 goal attempts.
