NHL latest – Ottawa Senators win 3-2 against the New Jersey Devils

The 2nd game of Thursday saw the Ottawa Senators play host to the New Jersey Devils at the Scotiabank Place. The home team was all fired up ahead of the match and the fans gave them the extra edge they needed to overcome the struggling New Jersey
Devils. This was the 420th game of the season which saw the New Jersey Devils playing the 28th game of the season while the Ottawa Senators played the 31st game of the season. Around 16,000 fans came to witness the match with
the majority in favour of the Senators.
Though the Devils made a very good start right from the start and didn’t let the home team settle, they couldn’t capitalize from the chances they got. The away side had many scoring opportunities with the fabulous performance they came up with.
The home team just waited for chances to come their way. The Senators got their first chance in the 13th minute but the shot was stopped by the goalkeeper. However, the home team managed to score in the 16th minute to take the lead
of the match. The goal was scored by Erik Karlsson from a quick fired shot.
The period didn’t see any further goals as the Senators led 1-0 going into the break. During the period the Senators made 13 goal attempts while the New Jersey Devils made 7 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw both teams explode right from the start.
The away side successfully levelled the score as they bagged a goal in the 5th minute. The goal was scored by Patrik Elias from a flick shot.
However, the dominance didn’t last long as the home team was able to come up with some brilliant pieces of play that took them past the opposing defence. The Ottawa Senators had several chances to score before they finally scored in the 10th minute.
The goal was scored Milan Michalek from a decent strike.
The home team after regaining the lead further strengthened it with another goal in the 12th minute. The goal was scored by Jarkko Ruutu. The away side cut the lead to one goal as they scored once again in the 15th minute which was
the final goal of the period. The goal was scored by Dainuis Zubrus from a powerful strike.
The period ended with the Ottawa Senators leading 4-3 as they made 6 goal attempts while the New Jersey Devils made 13 goal attempts.
The final period wasn’t productive in terms of goals though there were many goal attempts during the course of the period. The period and the match ended with the Ottawa Senators winning the match 4-3. During the course of the final 20 minutes of play the
Devils made 11 goal attempts while the Senators made 10 goal attempts but no goals were scored.
