NHL Latest – Philadelphia Flyers win 3-2 against the Detroit Red Wings in the match between the 2nd and 3rd teams in the league
Detroit Red Wings hosted the 575th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series this Sunday at the Joe Louis Arena. With around 20,000 fans coming to witness the match, the outcome of this match would have changed the standings for sure. Brain
Boucher, goalie of the Philadelphia Flyers was able to come up with a superb performance making 25 saves as the Flyers won 3-2 and resultantly levelling the top four teams on points.
The match started off slowly for both sides neither were the teams in a hurry to score. Both teams were well aware of opposition’s strong counter attacking abilities therefore they didn’t go on the attacks with all of their men involved.
With the passage of time, both teams settle into the game and started to come up with decent pieces of play. Detroit Red Wings had a clear cut chance in the 10th minute which could have put them in the lead but the shot went just wide.
The away team also had the share of the chances but they too failed to score as the period ended with scores level on 0-0. During the course of the period Detroit Red Wings made 9 goal attempts while the Philadelphia Flyers made 8 goal attempts.
Philadelphia Flyers made a great start to the match as they made goal attempts and dominated not only possession but also came up with splendid pieces of play. The away side capitalized from their superb form and scored to take the lead in the very first
minute. The goal was scored by James van Riemsdyk from a powerful strike.
Flyers continued to press on working hard and successfully scored in the 6th minute through Daniel Carcillo’s tip in shot to double the lead. Flyers completed the dominating performance of the period with another goal through Scott Harnett in
the 15th minute.
Detroit Red Wings also had numerous chances to score but they failed and the period ended with the Philadelphia Flyers leading 3-0. During the course of the period Flyers made 19 goal attempts while the Red Wings made 11 goal attempts.
Though there were less goal attempts in the final period but the home teams proved to be the more productive of the two teams. Detroit managed to score their first in the first minute through Valtteri Filppula.
The home team scored once again in the 13th minute through Henrik Zetterberg’s backhand shot. Though the home team pressed on in search of another goal that would equalize the scores but they weren’t successful in doing so.
The period and the match ended with the Philadelphia Flyers winning 3-2. During the final period Detroit made 7 goal attempts while Flyers made 5 goal attempts.
